Lombardi and his staff had success with junior free agent signings like Muzzin and Jones, but that was quite a while back. This organization needs more signings of that quality.

With college free agents, they've had mixed results. Moulson and Purcell had to go elsewhere to succeed after the Kings picked them up as college free agents. Oh and we can't forget the legend, Davis Drewiske.

What about that stud, Peter Harrold?

The Kings can only blame their own play for where they currently are.

Yep, luckily still hold their fate in their own hands, but seen this movie before--all the desperate teams go HAM on winning streaks, all the basement teams play spoiler, and all the locked teams slack off. Kings should know this as they've bottomed out instead--will they have learned? We'll see.

Watching the Ducks/Preds game, it's amazing what some perseverance and playing with desperation could do. The Ducks trailed 3-1 in the 2nd and just tied the game late in the period with an insane amount of pressure, with chance after chance.

Remember when the Kings used to apply similar pressure years ago? I memba.

This team lacks that drive and killer instinct, which is why I am really annoyed with Lombardi and his tweener shopping at the deadline.

If nothing else, we'll see if the roster has anything. I'm always hopeful when it comes to that kind of stuff. It can take just one game to turn a season around. Off the loss at home to the Canucks, and the Blues passing them and then padding their lead since the loss to the Canucks. Nashville and Anaheim going back and forth.

If there's a game to come out with some real urgency, it's the one on Thursday. Like start the game on time. Don't fall asleep in the 2nd. Keep it going in the 3rd. A solid 60 minute effort. Because at 19-28 in regulation, they've had their issues with that.

I can't recall the last time this team played a full 60-minute game without a half assed effort. They've been excruciatingly bad in the first two periods for a good chunk of the season.

I hear you, but that ship has sailed....these guys have already blown it.

Why's Bishop stupid? He costs us little and is an upgrade to Budaj. Is there a 5th rounder that you know about that the Kings scouts don't?

Acquiring Bishop is Lombardi's attempt to make the playoffs when it's not a playoff caliber team.

Maybe instead of looking at cost, try looking at the team's direction.

What exactly did the kings lose in this trade again? You act as if he traded a top prospect or high draft pick. He also was shopping gaborik. Not sure what you wanted him to do?

It's been stated many times they aren't rushing quick back and so far he's playing every other game. If by miracle they make the playoffs do you really want budai or Bishop in some of the games? The trade was nothing more than to upgrade in case quick can't play every game in the playoffs.

I agree on this argument, but what difference does it make who's in goal? We'd bomb out in the 1st round anyway.

Also, I just noticed that we're meanwhile 8 points (!) behind a team like Calgary. How are we even supposed to make the playoffs?

Thanks for nothing Minnesota.

If we took care of our own s*** (such as, say, defeat a team like Vancouver on home ice) we wouldn't have to rely on anyone else.

It's pointless to tell other teams "thanks for nothing", it's not their job to take care of our situation.

How about not buy to start?

Forget the selling for a second. Not acquiring Bishop or Iginla would look less stupid.

Who did he buy? He traded two UFA's for two UFA's. Basically it all boils down to Cernak, a 7th, and two conditional picks for a 5th and at least a 4th. If that trade happens at the draft, and not the deadline, is it a huge issue?

The Flyers beat the Sabres 6-3, with all 6 goals being at even-strength. Weal had a goal and an assist. Nice interception mid-air of a Buffalo pass leads to a goal off the rear skate with Weal parked in front of the net.

Stat mentioned on the broadcast: the Kings are the heaviest team in the league at an average weight of 210.5 lbs.

Islanders, Leafs and Flyers are locked in a battle for a playoff spot.
