Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Anthony has been rooting for the Kings for years and will always have a fondness for them, but he lives in Las Vegas and will be supporting his home team. I don't see the problem with that. He gave a gracious goodbye. Cheers to new memories and old.

It's evident that this team has completely quit on Sutter. A new voice is definitely needed. It happens all the time, even to the greatest coaches in every sport. Lombardi needs to step down and take just a presidential role as well and let Futa take over as GM, not Blake.

If you were around in the 80s as a fan, and still stuck around in the awful post Gretzky era, how could this current team be any worse? Do you look back fondly at the Khristich era? Or when Fiset and Storr as the #1 starter was the topic of debate among Kings fans? I'd take the current team now over those sorry ass Kings teams that we had to suffer through.

What kills me about the current team is that we know what we have and we know what they can do....they just aren't doing it. The teams of the past, at least post-Gretzky just never had the players to do anything, ESPECIALLY goaltending.

This is just like 2015 when they missed the playoffs, how are you losing to teams that have no business beating you? You are in control of your own destiny and you give it away? This has absolutely no resemblance to the 2014 teams that played their best hockey when with their backs against the wall. It just shows how obvious it is that all the true leaders of the teams from 2012 - 2014 are no longer here.

EXACTLY.

Mitchell, Williams, Stoll, Richards - these were the real leaders of the team. Kopitar and Brown are passengers in the locker room and always were.

This is nonsense. You have no idea what you're talking about.

To be fair, neither do you. No one outside of the locker room knows what is going on inside of it.

I was never a fan of Kopitar getting the captaincy but I think that's the least of this team's problems.

Passengers might be a strong word. Williams and Stoll were on the 14-15 team too. So was Richards, until he played himself off of it. So was Regehr. So was Quick. None of that leadership could make up for losing Voynov, or even Pearson for half the season. Williams had 3 goals in the last 30 games. Mr. Game 7, not so much Mr. Game 77.

That season will always be the biggest what if year for this Kings core, and one that involved many of the leaders from the Cup years.

We already look like a sorry ass team with the likes of Kopitar, Gaborik, Doughty, Quick, Carter, Pearson, Muzzin, Martinez, Toffoli, etc. Those aren't names to slouch at.

I hate to imagine how much worse its going to get. The full potential of the team isn't being realized anymore.

good teams underperform, it happens all the time in every sport. doesnt make it any less painful to watch though

Hard to call Kopitar and Doughty passengers when they've led the playoffs in scoring at their position twice. We know what we saw. The behind-the-doors leadership is conjecture at best.

Totally agree and I've felt this way for a while. It's not an indictment of his true ability as a coach and any team would be so lucky as to hire Sutter, but I do think things get stale. 5 years is an eternity in sports.

This is why I feel it's coaching. This team is actually too good in my eyes to be this underperforming. I know some (many?) others feel the roster is flawed, but I don't think it's THIS flawed, especially when you look at others.

Yes, players age, etc., but these guys aren't the last version of Detroit with a bunch of 38 and 39 year olds.

Fully agreed about Sutter, I wanted him gone last year as well. I liked him for his time here, but its definitely time for a coaching change. He just can't extract anymore from this team.

The biggest what if from that year being what if a certain someone hadn't beaten up his GF...

From the GM's meeting in Boca today

Pierre LeBrun‏Verified account @Real_ESPNLeBrun

The GMs were broken into 4 groups today and tasked with this question: "How do you view the game in 5-10 years?" All kinds of ideas explored

Flames GM Brad Treliving said his small group, among many things, looked at the idea of 3 points for a 60-min win, the merits of it ...

Veteran GM Lou Lamoriello on the other hand says he would rather go back to 2 points for a win and zero for any kind of loss. No loser point

Dan Rosen‏Verified account @drosennhl 2h2 hours ago

Brad Treliving said his group discussed removing elements of D to promote offense(less congestion netfront, types of illegal blocked shots).

I'm with Papa Lou, no loser points.
Go to the 3-2-0 system, 3 for reg. win, 2 for OT win, 0 for losing.

Since being acquired...

Matt Bartkowski is 7-0-1 as a Flame.

Michael Stone is 7-0 as a Flame.

Team is playing much better Team Defence.

Flames now with 7 straight wins

Maybe the Kings should take note...

If you read that, it makes sense. Bruins SOG's decreased but scoring increased because Cassidy's a believer in quality not quantity.

Julien- 34.5 SOG's per game best in the NHL, however, too few from the slot ,25th in the NHL with 7.6 shooting percentage and averaging 2.6 goals per game.

Cassidy averaging 4 fewer shots per game but increased the shots from the slot and are 2nd in the NHL, shooting percentage is 12% and the goals per game went up to 3.7

And having seen them since, they look like a completely different team 8-2 under the new coach.

take note, Darryl! Im tired of the seeing the dump & chase fail. teams key in on that and are very quick at retrieving the puck & getting it out of their zone out to the forwards, just like we saw Toronto do in the game last week. the Kings are big enough to muscle their way into scoring areas but just arent getting there. hopefully the offensive approach/system is looked at over the summer and tweaked

You really think Sutter coaches Kopitar to carry the puck into the zone, skate behind the net, and throw it back to the point?

I don't think Sutter would mind if Kopitar took the puck right into the blue paint once in a while.

Gaborik got benched for not meeting Sutter's expectations. You'd think a decrease in ice time at the very least if Kopitar was doing something Sutter was unhappy with.
