Gaborik got benched for not meeting Sutter's expectations. You'd think a decrease in ice time at the very least if Kopitar was doing something Sutter was unhappy with.

I wouldn't, Kopi is one of Sutter's favorites. Gabby isn't. King had bad stretches, he didn't serve any time. Plus Kopi contributes in other areas, like on the PK and defensive zone faceoffs, taking pressure off, etc.

Sutter also prefers to dress McNabb over Gravel.

I'm not saying Kopitar's season is okay. Nor am I saying McNabb's season is okay.

I'm just saying if a player's performance isn't acceptable, then a coach has the option to enforce discipline. If he's not getting disciplined for bad play, then you can't assert a coach is unhappy with a player.

I agree Kopitar has to figure things out and elevate his play. My problem is the assertion from K17 that Sutter must be displeased with his style of play. Sutter has done little to show that Kopitar's play is unacceptable. When the coach seems okay with how you play, how much do you expect someone to change how he plays?

If you read that, it makes sense. Bruins SOG's decreased but scoring increased because Cassidy's a believer in quality not quantity.

Julien- 34.5 SOG's per game best in the NHL, however, too few from the slot ,25th in the NHL with 7.6 shooting percentage and averaging 2.6 goals per game.

Cassidy averaging 4 fewer shots per game but increased the shots from the slot and are 2nd in the NHL, shooting percentage is 12% and the goals per game went up to 3.7

And having seen them since, they look like a completely different team 8-2 under the new coach.
It's a little more complicated than that.

Kopitar is all Sutter has to put out there.

It's interesting to see people blame Sutter's system for many of Kopitar's problems.

Carter and Pearson are having great years. Are they ignoring the system?

Pretty sure the system allows a player to drive the net whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Sutter has expressed twice this month or two frustration at not getting enough production from his top players, Carter excepted. Top player, you're talking Kopitar. Sutter still loves Kopi's faceoffs and defensive play, though.

Please highlight in my post where I blame the system. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Can't check right now, but doesn't Kopitar consistently get more ice time than Carter?

That's not blaming a system. Sutter puts Kopitar out there despite the lack of offense. So he's apparently okay enough with Kopitar. If Kopitar wasn't getting the message Sutter was trying to send, wouldn't he... I dunno... play him less or not at all?

I see no arguments that Sutter is unhappy with Kopitar specifically. Saying "he's all they have" is pretty weak.

Bench him for a game if he's a liability. I'd be okay with that.

Kopitar at his current level of play is still more helpful to the team on the ice than in the press box.

Players of Kopitar's stature don't generally get the healthy scratch treatment and I don't expect Sutter to ever do it.

Don't want him to, either. Kopitar playing still gives the Kings a better chance to win.

It's astounding, really. You'd think there would come a time they can genuinely appreciate having a talented defenseman without needing a trophy to validate their feelings.

It felt awkward rooting for the Sharks last night.

It's all situational. The enemy of my enemy. Not so much rooting for the Sharks, as it is wanting the Jets to lose. Since the Sharks and Kings aren't in the same area code in the standings, then what the Sharks do is sort of immaterial.

WASH closing in on D Kristofers Bindulis from NCAA Lake Superior St. Free agent. Raw, but certainly talented. 21 years old.

This is not a route the Kings tend to take, is that Lombardi? With a new GM would that change? There have to be talented NCAA players that would be worth a shot...

I think it's less that the Kings don't try as these players have an agenda. They want to stay closer to where they grew up. How many are coming from the west? They want guaranteed playing time. And our leadership won't go for that.

I mean, just last year we almost landed Lyon...

We just swing and a miss frequently. Very rarely do college FAs sign out here, its all Canada and east coast teams near their homes, and teams that can 'guarantee' things.

It's sort of strange, because the team has so many Americans on it, you'd think some of that would come from pursuing guys from the NCAA but that hasn't really been the case.

This just reminds me of all those times when people tried to use southern California lifestyle as a selling point for FAs like players really care about that. PLayers, like most people, care about family first and foremost. For most of these guys, coming to California might as well be moving to another country, distance wise. It's a lot to ask a human.

We've been drafting college players. But that's a far cry from trying to woo the RFA players that didn't sign with the team that drafted them.

The Flames are 8-1-1 in their last 10, with a 7-game winning streak. Now imagine if the Kings got their **** together and went on a run like that...

Their eight wins have come against the Islanders, Red Wings, Kings, Hurricanes, Panthers, Lightning, Predators and Flyers. Their last regulation loss was on February 13 against the Coyotes.

In that same time span, the Kings are 3-5-2, with wins against the Avalanche, Ducks and Leafs.

The Kings have 12 games this month, half of which are against division rivals, and four of their last five games in April are against division rivals as well. They also have a game against the Jets later this month and the last home game against the Blackhawks in April.

If these guys don't put up a fight, their season ends on April 9, and some bodies will be walking the plank if that is the case.

These college free agents are usually more trouble than they're worth. Especially the undrafted ones.

Lombardi and his staff had success with junior free agent signings like Muzzin and Jones, but that was quite a while back. This organization needs more signings of that quality.

With college free agents, they've had mixed results. Moulson and Purcell had to go elsewhere to succeed after the Kings picked them up as college free agents. Oh and we can't forget the legend, Davis Drewiske.
