Next question: With Johnson, Drouin, Palat hitting RFA, cap-crunched TB can't possibly keep all its core F's, can they? So who gets moved?

Palat, although I guess that depends on the players demands for term and $$. (Although Eklund hinted that in the Shattenkirk to Bolts trade that fell thru, Bishop and Droiun were the pieces going back) If they think Drouin won't sign with them, because o fthe ongoing issues with Cooper and that JD is 'very strong willed', they might package him with Bishop to unload Bishop.

Bolts in CAP Hell, 9 expiring contracts and no $$. They really have some hard contracts on the roster. Callahan's turning 32 and has 3 yrs left at 5.8 and another surgery. Fippula 2 yrs at 5M.

MOving Bishop's contract will help but , another piece(s) have to go.

Palat 's a pretty good LW and if he is the odd man out, maybe they should move him next week, as they aren't (i don't thnk) a playoff team.
Tough call.

They'll move others before even considering Drouin. He's their most talented forward after Kucherov. I'd say he's on the verge of becoming a star player. Palat and/or Johnson will be more likely to move, and given that they were on the verge of acquiring Kevin Shattenkirk had he agreed to an extension, it appears that they'll be looking to make a move for a top 3 defenseman.

With the Wings possibly shopping Mike Green, I could see him being a potential target for Steve Yzerman.

I don't see DL going after someone like Drouin, though I think he'd be a nice fit on this team. He brings dynamic offensive creativity, something we're sorely lacking.

Christ, if the lightning lose Drouin...

If they're moving him in ANY WAY we had better be all over that.

Kings should be offering Muzzin + up. Hockey trade, they need a defenseman and one who's signed and we need talent.

And Ziggy, I don't think the Wings are shopping Green, they need someone to produce on defense and he's about their only one.

Why wouldn't they shop Green? Problem is he still has one more year at $6 million and I believe he has a NTC. He's over 30 and breaking down, go get something for him while you still can and free up the cap space. They would probably even have to retain some of the remaining contract to facilitate a trade

The Wings aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

DL should be in on this. If there is an option to do a sign and trade for Palat, Drouin or Johnson in exchange for Muzzin or Martinez, now is the best time to pull that off.

Bishop is a UFA at season's end so will it help all that much? It's not like he is an anchor on their cap going forward but as you noted, Callahan and Filppula are.

This is one of those situations where you could assume Yzerman calls McPhee pre expansion draft and asks him to please take either player and he will deal pick(s)/young cheap roster player and/or prospect to Vegas as "compensation".

In that case if I'm McPhee I would ask for Jake Dotchin but I'd think it be safe to say Yzerman says no thank you.

It will be awhile before I see Jonathan Drouin as anything but a spoiled brat.

It will be awhile before I see Jonathan Drouin as anything but a spoiled brat.

And i think that is the heart of the problem. Remember last winter (January ?) when he threw a hissy fit about being sent to the AHL and wouldn't go? So they suspended him? And he sat out. And the media coverage and such was not in his favor, (aka spoiled) I think his agent got him in a room and told him to put on his big boy pants, lose the ego and play you butt off if he wanted $$$ in his next contract. GM's don't like pouty spoiled players. And it worked, he did report and played well and was great in the playoff 14 pts in 17 games.

But There are and have been underlying issues with him and Cooper and I don't think he'll sign there. Esp if due to the other contracts, he can't get the $$ he feels he's worth ( and I'm curious what that will be)
So if the Bolts know that, they might find a partner to do a sign and trade with.
It's up to him to sign with the team, they don't sign him.
And I'm sure he knows there are teams out there , quite a few, that would find the room.

We'll see...

On the radio last night a caller suggested the Kings and Wings could be good trade partners. Kings need more speed and Wings need more size.

5 points back of Nashville with the same GP. 6 points back of Calgary, with 2 games in hand, but a worse points%. I'm sure the Ducks would like nothing better than to kick the Kings while they're down today.

Expecting an announcement from VAN & local health officials shortly, but it appears 5 Canuck players are battling the mumps. Won't face SJ.

Stars trade Eaves to the Ducks for a conditional 2nd round pick.

His name has been out there for awhile, 21 goals will do that for a 32 yr old bottom 6'er on an contract out year. The Hawks were asking, I wonder if that's why they went Jurco instead. Anyway, he's playing with Benn and Seguin, and I'm guessing based on that success , they'll put him with getzlaf. He's had a good yr but he's got top notch linemates too.

Everybody in the entire league wants more speed/skill, you don't just add it to your roster.

It has to be drafted and developed.

Most cases yes, but if you spot a good deal and can jump on it, why pass it up? Especially if you got something they want that you don't need. ;)
