Also, Ottawa wins 3-1. Only one Ottawa d-man was a minus. hmmmm...:sarcasm:

He wasn't really at fault on the goal, though he was floaty as always.

You really think his buddy Sakic is gonna let him go now?

I don't think the 'buddy' will but the executive should remember it's a business first. It might not happen this year, but if they continue to fail next year, he'll have to do it.
He might not have a choice, team is underachieving and I don't see them moving Matt Duchene, who is one of the players ROy has issues with and blasted him last week in the media. And ROR had issues with him as well. ROR has been a beast this year for the Sabres. How many top players do you risk losing because of the coach's attitude/temper?

His system is not effective and he's got too much young talent on that team that are not being as effectively used as they should be.

This article cites issues with Roy , among them calling out the players as the reason for the team's failings, never himself. Also points out that his first year success was largely due to Varmalov.

The core they have is actually quite good with Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Tyson Barrie at the heart of it. They need to find a way to build around that group, but based on Roy's recent comments in post-game scrums and on the radio, he sees them as the problem. Does that mean it's him or does it mean one or more core players will be shipped out? If that's the choice Joe Sakic has to make, it should be the former. It's easier to replace a coach than it is a top-end scorer like a Duchene, who recently drew some of the harshest criticism of his coach.

I will be at the Stars game on Saturday. I do not expect much from Nashville since they have nothing to play for, but should be a fun game. Stars playing to face Minnesota instead of Chicago in the first round. Blues playing Washington.

An angled shot of a goalie at the post versus a straightforward shot of a goalie in the middle of the net is not a good photo comparison.

It also ignores the improved athletic ability of goalies plus the defenders blocking a lot more shots.

And the fact that the majority of todays NHL goalies are over 6'0", where as back than there wasn't that many.

one way to instantly get me riled up is when other fans say **** like how the league will allow LA to just void some contracts for cap relief.

not sure how many times i have to post that the Richards **** likely benefited Edmonton and Calgary more than anything. Even if they were going to acquire (which they were) Richards just to buy out they would have that cap hit for years. With Monahan and Johnny G up in Calgary they need cap space. Edmonton ill need it when McDavid is up.

Then posters often talk about LA getting out of Voynov's hit...ok. Losing our #2 D on a sweet heart deal is not bad enough, LA should be forced to Pay his cap hit when he isn't even allowed to play in North America? I just don't get the thought process.

The hate use to flatter me as it just means fans are jealous of LA's continued success, now it's just stale and pisses me off

exactly.

I got tired of posting immigration attorney opinions of what it takes to get an entry ban or lose a work visa. One or two, I can see people not liking but ignoring dozens? And the reputable news site links?

None of the haters are addressing that. Nor that the caps consulted with immigration attorneys.

They all scream Kingspiracy. :help:

The Avs are a less dysfunctional version of the Oilers.

So Ranger fans hate us because of Quick-Lunqvist debates. Sens fans hate us because of Doughty-Karlsson. At least Bruins fans have been respectful enough that they don't bother hating on Kopitar when people compare him to Bergeron.

East coasters getting defensive. Even most Hawks fans are quite complimentary of the Kings.

I finally figured out why Karlsson fans dont understand why Doughty is a better defenseman. Not a single one has played or even understands what a defenseman is supposed to do in situations. I almost feel bad having held them to an apparently unfairly high standard of understanding. It all makes sense now

It's not even just sens fans. It's MUCH of the east coast. They don't watch him, and without watching him, you can't see it. The stats don't do him justice; they never do. The fact that he has so many standout stats this year just illustrates how much better this year he is than usual. Like I said, the other night of the Ducks game was the perfect example--saves a goal, gets credited with a giveaway for it. Helps move the puck into the zone and helps set up the first scorign play, no point, just a plus. Saves another goal, gets credited with another giveaway. Breaks up the Ducks' empty net pressure with a great read to intercept a pass, and dumps it down PERFECTLY for no icing--doens't get a takeaway, instead gets ANOTHER giveaway.

Best player on the ice for both teams, but his final statline? +2, 0 points, 4 giveaways, 2 of which saved goals and one of which iced the game. Makes it real easy to spin a narrative if you don't see him. Also makes it easy to ignore his 70% CF% because others on the team had higher.

And I agree with you elsewhere, too; I've played a high enough level of hockey to understand defensive nuances particularly which is why so much of what I read is so, so maddening  Especially the play today in question, it wasn't a particularly BAD play in terms of IDEA--trying to be aggressive to stand up the play--but why leave a guy hung out to dry to try to make a risky pinchoff (and a subsequent oddman break) 5 minutes into a 0-0 game, why so risky?

It's this exactly. People on here will talk about Doughty's game, will make post upon post about it, and then let it slip later on that they've seen him play maybe one or two times this year. They're stat watching. And playing good defense is the one aspect of the game that is the least measurable. And the most easily misunderstood/hardest to understand.

The biggest ******** argument that gets perpetuated as well: that defense is a team stat and offense is individual one. Individual defensive impact is JUST as influential as individual offensive impact.

Exactly! Thank you. Coming in here and talking with you guys and talking to some sane, rational people for a change is so refreshing.
