I think I lost a few brain cells reading this...

"He [EK] would get more points [on the Kings]. Easy not make mistakes [refering to Doughty] when you're not asked to do anything hard enough for a mistake to be made."

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Here, I'll present a new contribution, defensive point shares.

Something else to argue about. Obviously faaaar from a perfect science but at least an attempt to capture defensive performance. A new wrinkle.

And if you like total point shares instead of defensive, you'll notice a strong case for both Burns AND Doughty over EK.

Do I fully subscribe to that? Absolutely not. But I'm just trying to at least get people to pay attention and stop suggesting it's merely a reputation award, Doughty is having a phenomenal season all-around.

Just makes me wish we had our usual video editors from the past around :(

I'm looking forward to the meltdown of one particular poster if Doughty wins the Norris...

Wow, if Karlsson fans are allowed to be so salty on the main board, I could only imagine their own forums.

My favorite is the implication that Doughty is getting it because he's a Canadian, despite the fact Karlsson has already won it twice.

From the TSN article:
http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-s-expert-panel-tackles-awards-questions-1.466001

One Doughty supporter went so far as to lightheartedly suggest — at least I think it was lighthearted — that anyone voting Karlsson for the Norris should lose their voting privileges.

4. Who is your choice for the Norris Trophy: Drew Doughty or Erik Karlsson?

Panellists were told they‎ could write in any defenceman of their choice if they believed someone other than Doughty or Karlsson warranted the award.

The results:
Doughty 18
Karlsson 2
Letang 1

‎It wasn't even close. A landslide.

Sutter would bench him until he learned how to play defense. So NO.

Edit: After thinking about it, McBain is a very good comparable to Karlsson. He'd have a ton of points if he got all the PP time and 30 minuets a night. Also the Kings wouldn't be a playoff team.

He'd be a healthy scratch like Muzzin was when he first came up.

I don't care if Detroit has made it 24 years in a row, they're still a black hole playoff team. Just good enough to make it, not good enough to do anything once they're in them and are rewarded with the 16-18th pick in the draft.

The quotes in the article are spot on, this debate between who is better out of these two future Hall of Famers has just reached a laughably bad and embarrassing level among fans.

Bob McKenzie's experts picked Doughty to win it this year, and he will almost surely win it. Last year his experts chose Karlsson and he won it. Suddenly the same fans attacking the expert picks last year (east coast bias, don't watch west coast games) are praising these experts and the fans who praised them last year are now critical (Canadian bias), it's quite hilarious to read as someone who counts both players as Top 5 favorite players in the NHL.

Only one other defender in the entire league received a vote in his poll on winning the Norris, again tells you all you need to know about where these two guys stand in the NHL, they are head and shoulders above everyone else, Drew is 26, Karlsson is 25. Drew is the best all around d-man since Bourque and Karlsson is the best offensive d-man since Coffey.

Bourque and Coffey combined to win 8 Norris trophies over an 11 year period, probably something similar going to happen here.

I've be perfectly fine with the wings being a bubble playoff team for another 20 years.

They won't rebuild as long as Datsyuk and Zetterberg are playing, but each guy is nearing the end. Once that happens I assume there will be a couple of down years and the playoff streak certainly ends.

I'll go as far as saying it will start next year. They have no one on the level of either of those two. Larkin is 3-5 away from being an impact player like them, if he continues to progress. They've been living off the scouting/drafting rep of those two for more than 15 years, yet since then, who have they developed to replace them? I look at that group and nobody stands out.

There's rumblings that Daysyuk is going to split back to Russia after the season is done, apparently for family reasons. Detroit will most likely turn into a black hole team after that, though they have drafted some good young talent as of late (Larkin, Athanasiou, Nyquist, Tatar).

He's such a floater and not someone I see being anything more than what he is right now,

Does Karlsson just have no defensive awareness or has he just never been taught to play defense at a NHL level? Obviously there's no way he'd be putting up close to 80 points a season on the Kings but I think he would be an even better overall player than he is now. He wouldn't be as good as Doughty offensively but I think the gap would definitely close if he had the Kings development. He would be an outstanding 2nd pairing right handed offensive specialist.
