Does Karlsson just have no defensive awareness or has he just never been taught to play defense at a NHL level? Obviously there's no way he'd be putting up close to 80 points a season on the Kings but I think he would be an even better overall player than he is now. He wouldn't be as good as Doughty offensively but I think the gap would definitely close if he had the Kings development. He would be an outstanding 2nd pairing right handed offensive specialist.

Eh? Karlsson is a top no1 dman, He would be a better player if he dialed back the O, but he is one out of the box.

There's no defenseman as offensively gifted as Karlsson. I may prefer Doughty, but let's be real about Karlsson's talents.

Karlsson would benefit a LOT from playing on the Kings (or in a structured system) defensively. His offense WOULD take a hit, but he sees the ice and moves the puck better than any defenseman in the league.

Agreed. He's seldom had a system where he could count on people to be certain places, and a lot of his issues stem from being 'lost' but that's also because he can't trust many of those around him. He may have developed differently here but even the current product would excel here.

I still would prefer Doughty, most likely, and I think he's actually the more complete and adaptable of the two, but the offensive nuances of Karlsson's game are incredible.

Karlsson is not a terrible defenseman,I think this year is an anomaly for him with his scoring, and also his drop in defense.

ninja edit: wrote Karlosson.... hmm karlosson, his mexican evil twin.

Karlsson is an incredible player, but his numbers are up because he's sacrificing defensive play, period.

Just like the rest of the team. The myth is that the Senators have a garbage team. That's BS. They play like garbage but have talent. Follow the leader I guess.

Oops, defensively I meant.

But yeah, can you imagine that guy being mentored and paired with Mitchell in his earlier years? Would've done wonders for his game.

is this Karlsson's fan forum now? why is like every other thread about Karlsson all of a sudden, did i miss something here? at least before it was "contained" to the Karlsson discussion thread

I can't handle that Karlsson thread anymore.

If we've learned anything about the Norris this season, it's that it's just like voting for politicians.

On one hand, you have a candidate that runs the positive campaign, and that exemplifies everything that is good with hockey. Exciting, talented, charismatic, the most effective player at his position.

On the other hand you have a candidate that presides mainly on a pathetic smear campaign of the other candidate. He has a team of cronies that props up his visibility. All we hear from that camp is fear and xenophobia, and how terrible the other candidate is, instead of how good this candidate is.

Certainly reminds you of a certain Canadian election in recent memory, right?

Anyways, I truly hope the voters vote for the right person, and not let the bullies win.

Is this really what people think?

the thing i don't understand is how totally willing and eager Sens fans are to throw literally everyone but Karlsson under the bus

if you listen to them seriously, you'd think Karlsson was playing with a pee-wee team from Africa, and every game where he does anything at all is a minor miracle worthy of a Disney film adaption

It gets way worse

There's actually some good discussion in that thread, but the rest is like trying to reason with a toddler.

that's how it's been in those threads all season

~2-3 pages of constructive debate followed by a dozen pages of the most blatant homerism and ****posting known to man

rinse and repeat

Don't begrudge the guy anything, but not sure why there is a need to get upset if Doughty doesn't win it.

Quick doesn't have a Vezina but Jim Carrey does so, like, whatever.

Have to figure a Norris might increase his next contract as well.

His next contract will be large regardless of a norris win or not. I have been looking on generalfanager and am scared. hard to believe he only has three years left on his 7x7 deal. What scares me is his deal expires before Brown's and Gaborik's. Need Vegas to take one of those guys.

Edit: my dream is for Vegas to take Brown, and then trade him back to LA with retention for futures. Brown eventually becomes all time GP leader for the franchise and retires a king.

Doughty's going to get 10 million+ on his next contract regardless.

I really don't care about the Norris, though. Doughty is a champion, a number one 30 minute all situations defender on multiple championship teams. Karlsson has a lot of points and nice hair.

Oh yeah, that's going to be a scary contract. Toffoli in the summer of 2017 too. His will at least double.

8 x $12 million for Doughty??

Doubt the Norris would increase his contact at all. The fact that almost every GM already considers him at or close to the best D in the league gives him everything he needs.

As was mentioned 8X12. I'm actually hoping it will come in that low.

Yeah, it's 3 years from now. Who knows what the market rate is by then although I can't imagine it would be a whole lot higher than that. Karlsson, OEL, McDonagh, and Seguin are also UFA's that same year so they might set the market for Doughty.
