There has to be another expansion team in the works, right? The league cannot allow an odd number.

So many people act like both uneven conferences and odd numbers are so rare. Every major sports league has done one or the other if not both for years at a time.

I think there will be another team but how long it will be I don't know. I think they want another team that would be in the west. So that means pac-central time zones.

once thing that came out recently is teams would have to expose a goalie who is signed through the 2017-18 season. with that in mind I imagine we can expect a budaj extenstion

Or maybe (I am just throwing stuff against the wall here) they could sign another veteran backup like Montoya or Johnson for 2 years around ~$1M per to take care of the expansion issue.

And Budaj remains AHL depth for another year as his deal is two-way.

Why not extend Budaj for that $1m and play him in the NHL next year. I think he is fully capabale of starting 12-15 games, and his cap hit is only $600K. Just cause he is on a 2 way does not mean he is not waiver eligible if that's why you think him being on a 2 way means he should stay in the AHL.

I think LA brings in goalies for the AHL not the NHL.

As far as the money, if they are going to give somebody more than what is essentially the minimum, it ought to be somebody who has played reasonably well as an NHL backup over the last 2 years, while Budaj has played all of 1 NHL game since the end of 13-14.

The whole point I was trying to make is that they could better their situation and resolve the expansion issue if they so choose.

The expansion draft worry drives me nuts. I get you have to prepare for the loss. In all likely hood, Amart will be exposed if LA signs a dman this offseason. If Amart is picked, LA will need to allocate the new cap space appropriately. Might not be terrible as Pearson and Toffoli are due for raises. Better hope Gravel/Forbort/LaDue can turn a development corner.

Remember you can only lose 1 player. It isn't worth worrying about. Deano should be out there getting great deals from teams that are worried.

You are also assuming it will be an easy ticket to get.
You have to remember that reports have said that they got 14.5K season ticket deposits. That was before going to anything corporate. It could cool down in a year or two but I actually see it as a hard to get ticket in the beginning.
I do think Foley will push to have the Kings continue to come to Vegas for the preseason, Frozen Fury, type event. He would actually be kind of crazy to stop it. Like you said the Kings would just become the road team.

As expected, Frozen Fury tickets are more expensive this year if you want a good seat. $100 after fees gets you lower bowl behind the net starting in Row Q. Pretty sure you could get closer to the ice for less at MGM since the rink was so small.

Kind of wish they were playing Colorado in the first game. Dallas is more exciting but FF has almost always been Colorado and I'd prefer they get the more exciting crowd. The crowd seemed a little more subdued for Game 2 of FF in 2014 since many of us--myself included--went too hard for the first game the night before.

This is going to be by far the best expansion team of all-time.

Between the draft set-up with the limited amount of players who can be protected and the fact that some teams will be leaving pretty good players available who happen to be overpaid.

I could easily see Vegas contending for a playoff spot pretty quickly.

Just wrote this on the Insider, what do you guys think.

Columbus has 5 NMC's (4 forwards, 1 d-man). Saad and Seth Jones are two of the guys who don't have the NMC. So they're going to lose defenseman Ryan Murray or David Savard unless they can move one of their NMC's. Wonder if the Kings can put together a package for Savard. Maybe offer them a lesser d-man who likely won't get chosen like McNabb or Gravel (+ whatever)? Of course this is contingent on the 8 skater option being available so the Kings don't lose the d-man they acquire also.

Read Columbus has asked Hartnell to waive his NMC though and they could buyout Tyutin who has a NMC so they might be able to keep Savard and Murray anyways.

As a life long Vegas native (a true native, born and raised going back several generations), I'm very excited about this team.

I'm also conflicted, though. I love the Kings very much. I know there's room to cheer for both, but if LA and Vegas ever meet in the WCF, I think I'll have to stick with LA there. Too much history.

that's the intent for sure is for them to be good. Only way owners make money going forward (after their expansion money) is for Vegas to be profitable. Best way for Vegas to be profitable is for the team to be competitive

That's what I'm trying to say. Too many variables to worry about signing or not signing players.

Other than the goaltender, every team has to offer a goaltender signed thru 17-18 (or RFA after 16-17), so they'll need to do something about that, whether that's extending Budaj or signing another veteran backup to a 2 year deal, with the intent of Budaj being AHL depth should he clear waivers.

Not a lot for Ward but also interesting move with expansion looming. It effectively renders him un-takeable since Vegas won't want a mediocre starting goalie whose contract expires in a year.

I haven't followed the discussion or details though so maybe I'm wrong, off to read up

I'm not sure what there goalie situation is. But if they have a going goalie that will be ready in another couple of years. It gives them him for that time and gives them him as the goalie to expose in the draft.

Unless Vegas has to take 1 player from every team, and Ward would be the only guy worth taking from Carolina because that roster is so young. Forget how many guys will they leave unprotected, how many guys do they have that fall under the rules of not being exempt?

I believe the rule is they can only take 1 player from each team, so most, if not all teams will take a hit.
