I used to think you were around my age, now I'm wondering if you're a college student

I wish, I wasted my college years and would love a redo (I was a college student for Frenzy on Figueroa). Now I'm just an adult with bad ideas to execute since I refuse to grow up and get married/have kids like normal people.

---------------------

The Hurricanes effectively swapped Eric Staal and a 2017 3rd for Teuvo Teravainen, Aleksi Saarela, and a 2017 2nd. Take a bow, Ron Francis.

Staal, 2017 3rd, and 4.5 million dollars (maybe less with a buyout). Still a good deal, but taking on Bickell's contract, especially for a budget team, can't be glossed over.

Hopefully you're right, I'd much rather have that top 4 D solidified than have Lucic.

To keep pace with the div/conf and esp survive a playoff run, that is a critical need and he's seen the effects of lack thereof.
I wonder how aggressive he'll be, given that there are several teams looking for that top d. For the few available, seller's market.

But how can he acquire a top 4 D with the expansion draft coming up? Seems like 7F-3D-1G is the only option. Or at least that's what I've read.

Can also protect any 8 skaters and a goaltender.

So if they wanted to hold spots for 4 defenseman and still protect Kopitar (who has NMC, so I don't think they have to), Carter, Toffoli and Pearson, they could.

The expansion draft worry drives me nuts. I get you have to prepare for the loss. In all likely hood, Amart will be exposed if LA signs a dman this offseason. If Amart is picked, LA will need to allocate the new cap space appropriately. Might not be terrible as Pearson and Toffoli are due for raises. Better hope Gravel/Forbort/LaDue can turn a development corner.

I am not certain the 8 skater and a goalie option is still available but I am 100% that you have to use a protection spot for any player that has a NMC (not NTC)

Is that going to be an option though? I read it was unlikely because they want teams to be forced to expose at least 1 good defenseman.

I'm getting a bit dizzy reading all these expansion articles...but according to this, ref. the Globe and Mail and Sportsnet, there are rules in place and that is one of them

1. Teams will have the option to protect either seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goalie, or eight skaters at any position and one goalie. That’ll mean some interesting tradeoffs to be made: if a team doesn’t want to risk losing a second-pairing defenseman, it’s going to be forced to expose two second-line forwards.

Right, they have to protect him, not that they are protected anyway, been scanning too many articles. :shakehead

At least that solves the Brown problem (he won't go away, but they don't have to protect him).

Protect Kopitar, Pearson, Carter, Toffoli, doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, mcNabb or Lucic if he's resigned. And Quick.

Hope and pray Gaborik or Brown gets claimed. Odds are King, Clifford or McNabb are goners.

once thing that came out recently is teams would have to expose a goalie who is signed through the 2017-18 season. with that in mind I imagine we can expect a budaj extenstion

if yo ucan do the 8 + goalie than this is exactly what the kings should and likely will do.

However if Lucic re-signs than why not use the 10F & 3D as you would only be protecting 3D anyway?

Depending on what a pro year means, guys like Gravel or Forbort might get taken too if they happen to have a good year.

There has to be another expansion team in the works, right? The league cannot allow an odd number.

the league will play with an odd number for a few years anyway yes. Why can you not play with an odd number of teams? It's not like some teams will play more games or anything.

Currently the league is playing with unbalanced conferences, this is better than that.

I just meant that everything has pretty much gone against the Kings since the 2nd Cup. So of course an expansion pick will be the guy the Kings have needed all along.

Now we see how untradeable Brown is. It took Teravainen to get rid of 1 year of Bickell at $4m. Brown has 6 years at almost $6m left. That's like, Toffoli at 50% for next year, Kempe, the 2017 1st, the 2018 1st, and the entire 2019 and 2020 drafts.

My thoughts today exactly.

Our D will look good this year, only to lose McNabb or Gravel for nothing. We can protect 8, and I almost guarantee that's what we do, but the downside to a guy emerging this year is that he's probably gone.

Hurricanes tore it up and I agree that's why we saw the Brown is unmovable stuff. They're collecting all the Finns, too!

okay so now they have 8 forwards signed for next year, I guess Kruger, Shaw and Panerin are next. But now that 10 M they had this morning before this, won't go far...

Chicago stays busy and re-signs Panik, who they believe can be ‘a dominant player’

Kruger already signed a month or so ago for $3.1 million. Panarin isn't a RFA until next summer.
