What are they suppose to say? "We're gonna suck for 5+ years, but that's ok."?

no he could say push for playoffs year 2 (only one 40 win team did not make it) and leave it at that. Setting a goal of being top 2 in the league is just idiotic, and makes it look like he does not know anything about the NHL.

50 wins as a goal is crazy talk from any team, let alone an expansion

"The worst-kept secret in hockey is becoming less secret by the minute: The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that the NHL will expand to Las Vegas and leave Quebec City on the back burner.

A person with direct knowledge of the NHL's decision says the league has settled on Las Vegas as its choice for expansion, provided organizers can come up with a $500 million fee.

The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because details have not been released by the league ahead of its Board of Governors meeting on June 22. Quebec City was also considered for expansion. A second person who had been briefed on the decision said Las Vegas was a "done deal" following the recommendation of the NHL's executive committee.

The 2017-18 season would be the earliest the league would expand.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports that "the NHL’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to recommend expansion to Las Vegas." He also reports the team is expacted to be the Las Vegas Black Knights."

I know the reports have been the black knights the whole time but i was hoping they would go for something else.

Here's hoping their colour scheme is different then LA's. With Pittsburgh going back to yellow maybe black and vegas gold makes sense

Give them the Kings current colors.
Go back to Forum blue and gold.

I know it won't happen but I can dream, right?

Well it has been 2 or 3 years, about time to change the jerseys again. :help:

Never liked when the switched back to black and white. However worst thing is the logo change. The best brands are the best brands because they do not change their logos for years until they become legendary. I am sure the red wings logo was not loved when it first came out, but it is now iconic.

Putting how often the kings change jerseys aside, the amount of times this clubs changes its logo is crazy.

I know your post was sarcastic, and as much as I do not like the current uniforms, I hope the team keeps them for years to come....a 3rd jersey with some colour would not be a bad thing though

The salt over Vegas getting a team over QC is glorious to behold.

Knights vs Kings sounds awesome too.

I haven't heard any "salt". The writing has been on the wall for a very long time. Quebec can only work for relocation.

I think they will get a team eventually, but need to wait for a team to relocate.

Go read the BOH forum thread there is plenty there.

And it will likely get worse when the Canadian media starts driving the hate when they feel they are overlooked as a country. That they sometimes do.

all the media I have read insists its because of the falty CDN dollar right now making that franchise fee too large for Quebec.

knowing the way Quebec operates I think there will be a lot of complaining coming out of there. Think of Quebec as its own country, they have a lot of laws that are very different than the rest of Canada.

That said I hope that the whenever a location does not get an expansion bid the local base is pissed about it. Shows that there is likely enough passion to sustain the game there.

I hope it goes down without a lot of hate being thrown around.
But I can see the anti Bettman crowd going back to the "he hates Canada" crap again.
I know it just doesn't seem reasonable with the current exchange rates to add another team right now. Especially with the cost of just the team. Add in the fact that they are in the east, which the NHL doesn't need a team there now. It makes it even worse.
But I'm just afraid that it doesn't matter what is said or how it's said it's going to get ugly.

Looking at Saad's first year in Columbus.

It was believed he was traded due to Columbus saying they would offer sheet him if no trade could have been worked out. Imagine the offersheet route would have happened and Chicago drafting 3rd OA this year!!

That said maybe Columbus is not as bad if they still have Anisimov and Dano (may not have been with the big club)

There will undoubtedly be some of those, and they will likely be the loudest people who just like the be heard.

Bettman is employed by the owners, the owners like money, if the money does not make sense it does not make sense.

Relocation would also help the Eastern conference thing if it is an East Coast team relocating

I still think the biggest factor was that the west needs to be evened up with the east in teams and Vegas fits right into the Pacific slot as well.

Back in 2008, Tampa had those cowboy owners (Barrie/Koules) who thought they could turn things around overnight.

Tired of stalled negotiations with restricted free-agent defenceman Andrej Meszaros, the Ottawa Senators sent him packing for the Sunshine State.

The Senators traded Meszaros, a young but experienced defenceman with plenty of upside, to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, acquiring defencemen Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard and a 2009 first-round pick in return.

Senators GM Bryan Murray said in a teleconference Friday that the team and Meszaros were far apart in their negotiations, and with the Lightning threatening to sign Meszaros to an offer sheet Murray decided to work out a trade instead.

The first rounder that Ottawa received was San Jose's which Tampa got a month earlier from dealing Dan Boyle. If Ottawa had just let Tampa do the offer sheet, they would have cost Tampa their own 1st rounder which turned out to be 2nd overall / Victor Hedman.

Imagine having a Hedman-Karlsson pairing for the last few years? Albeit, Ottawa had been chasing a #1 center for most of those years (attempted to trade up for Kadri at the 2009 draft) so they very well could have hypothetically drafted Matt Duchene. But even then, that's a better return than what they got.

Murray compounded the bad decision by flipping San Jose's first into a half-season of the remnants of Mike Comrie and Chris Campoli.

-------------

Would have been ballsy to let Saad go and take the picks. Columbus was everybody's sleeper pick this year after they had a great 2nd half in 2014-15 despite the injuries.

Similarly if Boston had let Calgary (or Edmonton) offer sheet Hamilton, they'd be looking at picks 6/35/66 this year instead of 15/45/52 last year. Albeit, last year's draft was deeper and I kinda would have rather have had #45 in 2015 than #35 in 2016.

Look, anything that adds a team from the Pacific time zone is a good thing. **** the haters.

Very much looking forward to going to Vegas for a regular season game. Hopefully the schedule maker is smart and makes that a Friday or Saturday night game.

They should also be smart and schedule the Kings there in the pre-season so those of us that annually go to FF can still have that experience, albeit as the visiting team. Seems like a no-brainer but this is the NHL.

For a week night game, it probably would be easier for me to hop on a plane to go to Vegas than it would be to drive to LA from San Diego. I'm looking forward to trying to fly there, watch a game, and fly back first thing in the morning without missing work.

You are also assuming it will be an easy ticket to get.
You have to remember that reports have said that they got 14.5K season ticket deposits. That was before going to anything corporate. It could cool down in a year or two but I actually see it as a hard to get ticket in the beginning.
I do think Foley will push to have the Kings continue to come to Vegas for the preseason, Frozen Fury, type event. He would actually be kind of crazy to stop it. Like you said the Kings would just become the road team.

You guys think Vegas fans will suffer from the San Diego/Bay Area/Phoenix syndrome, meaning they will chant Beat LA every time the Kings are playing there? Had there been sports in Vegas for a long time, their fans would have definitely been LA-hating ****heads just like Bay Area and Arizona fans.

I've never experienced it in any of those places except the bay.
And they at least have a legitimate claim thanks to the Giants. I'll even give the Warriors some claim as well. One goes back to NY before the teams moved out west in 1958. And the other goes back to 1962 when the Warriors moved out west. So those are generations old sporting rivals.

I used to think you were around my age, now I'm wondering if you're a college student

Doesn't sound like a bad deal though. Will be nice to have another team in close-ish proximity, not quite what the NY teams have but at least there's more of a cluster

Yeah it's pretty clear the hat and jersey was provided by the show and these random people off the street were coached as to what to say.

Clearly these people have no clue what they're talking about. Like the news anchors who try to talk about hockey when the Kings go on a deep playoff run and can't even get the players names right, let alone use the correct team logo.

I watch Kimmel religiously. He does this kind of thing all the time. Asks random people about absurd events that never happened and their knee jerk reaction is to lie and pretend they know.

If there's ever a team in Portland it'll be the same. Lol

I can't imagine Vegas doing that chant, at least not right off the bat.
