And speaking of the Leafs, did anybody notice that Kapanen’s first year compensation is almost all signing bonus paid on July 1st? And the signing bonus is $3.7M....almost exactly the same as Marleau’s buyout.

JR had to move Kessel, it had become bad for the team for his to stay. Everyone knows hes in a tough spot, and Phil really only wants to go to Arizona. They want to get younger at the same time. Galch and POJ considering the situation is a great trade since they just wanted to move Phil out. Galch is gone next season so they'll be completely free with 5 million in cap space.

I think the pens did really well here.

If they can move Galch out they can fill that money slot with someone else right now.

Sounds like the Leafs and Sens have agreed to a Zaitsev-Ceci swap. No word on the picks going to the Senators, but if they don't get a 1st back (at least), I'm going to laugh my pants off considering how there's 5 long years left on the Zaitsev contract and how Dundon/Waddell only needed to eat 1 year of Marleau to get a 1st from Dubas.

So are you saying the Canes didn’t offer him to other teams or decided to take a lower offer instead? Is that what you are suggesting?

And regarding the age/contract differences, one was bought out and the other was traded for something.
