Boy, NJD getting of free is a huge FU to the NHL's own rules

It certainly would be if they were getting off free. Instead, they've already given up a third round pick and been fined $1.5m as part of the original penalty... and then as part of the CBA got saddled with 10 years of cap recapture penalty for a player that's not there anymore. Given all that, going from "no first-round draft pick" to "dropping 15-20 spots to the end of the first round" doesn't seem like much of a mercy to me. :dunno:

What about all of the other teams that did it and didn't get penalized. The NHL chose to stop looking the other way on these deals when the Kovalchuk contract happened. it was a bit unfair for them to be singled out at that time when numerous contracts were handed out like this prior to his.

Caps are about to get first rounder Evgeny Kuznetsov in the lineup soon. He's regarded as one of the top players not playing in the NHL. Wonder how much of an impact he makes

Sounds like a similar deal when Traktor's season is done and he is free to leave. They are not playing in the Nadezhda Cup or the playoffs so he should be free to leave.

I wouldn't expect him to make a huge impact. he wasn't exactly lighting up the KHL in points 8-13 for 21 pts in 31 games. Decent numbers but the KHL is also a league where NHL castoffs such as Brandon Bochenski and Deron Quint are at the top of the stats sheets.

Now that Miller is linked with Hitch look for the Blues to win the cup.... they are not only good but deep... History can prove my feelings about Hitch but the dude has kicked ass since joining the Blues.. In a way I think he became a better coach after his stint in Columbus....

Does any other small market team besides the devils get this treatment? Absolute BS.

Certainly will open the market for teams needing to move players in the off season if they have 3 million less to spend than they though.

For a team like the CBJ that will have 19 million to spend if it does drop to 68, they could really make out in the offseason. Pittsburgh has like 7 forward signed for next season and they'll only have 12 to spend if the cap drops that low.

It's unfortunate, but without being fired from Columbus I doubt Hitch would have revamped his outdated style. He took the liberty of reinventing his strategies and coaching style during the year of downtime after being fired.

This is really great news for the Jackets. We were trying to decide between spending our extra $ on Gaborik or some other overpriced UFA, and now we can just sit back and poach guys that other teams can't sign or buy out.

Carolina takes two "Delay of Game - shot the puck over the glass" penalties within 40 seconds. Rangers with 5 on 3 for 1 min 20 sec.

and...3-2 Rangers with 2:46 left.

OK so when we want the Devils to lose, they win.

And when we want them to win, they lose.

Why is that?
Because they are the direct instruments of the will of those Hockey Gods that have spent many a jovial evening pointing and laughing at us and don't want to give it up anytime soon. See also: Thursday evening.

Thank goodness it's no longer the entire pantheon, though. That really sucked.
