Arizona Coyotes Lounge XXV

Parisians hated the Eiffel Tower when it was built and couldn't wait for the World's Fair to be over so it could be torn down. I guess some things grow on you.

Yeah - if Chase is renovated and makes it past the 50-year mark, you're gonna see a significant image rehabilitation. The nostalgia effect.

Thing is, in Phoenix Metro there isn't a whole lot of nostalgia candidates to be had. Most of the stuff from when I was a kid and teenager is gone... Big Surf... Metrocenter... etc. The sprawl, transplant churn, and continuously changing consumer market nip most of our hallmarks in the bud. We just don't have time to let things settle into tradition and memory like, say, Fenway Park did.

Had a really yummy meatloaf the other day. It was at Outbreak Steakhouse of all places lol

Anybody know any spots in Gilbert area with good meatloaf?

Bigsurf/Riata pass steakhouse/Rawhide/Pinnacle peak patio/Greasewood flats, all gone from Scottsdale, they were iconic....

That’s impressive and all, but is dwarfed by the house I made a door dash delivery to the other day. 30k sq ft house belonging to the CEO of bass pro shops. The house was massive!

Today's a good day not to watch or listen to anything featuring Todd Walsh (well, every day is that day, but today's a particularly good one), because it's the anniversary of the Miracle on Ice and he's going to be head-down-mumbling-and-searching-for-his-regional-Emmy all freaking day.

It's already begun on Twitter..

So in totally bat shit f***ing crazy news...

Some randoms tried to start a fight with my 66 & 70 year old in laws tonight.

Here's the story:

They play in a weekly bocce league at a club out in Vistancia. We weren't there when this went down, we were at home watching her little sister who's special needs autistic. But before their match this evening, some lady (much much younger than my MIL according to her) ran up to my MIL and started yelling at her, accusing her of talking a bunch of shit about her family, calling her a bitch and just laying into her. My FIL steps in to try to diffuse the situation, only to have the random lady's husband step up, body up to him and tell him to step off or he was going to "bury him". Then, the lady's daughter steps in and gangs up on my MIL.

Now here's the thing: my in laws have no idea who the f*** these people are. Never seen them, don't know their names, nothing. My MIL is an angel who doesn't drink, doesn't swear, hates violence/confrontation and spends her days watching Hallmark movies. She's scared of ketchup (not joking). She wouldn't hurt a fly. My FIL spends his days playing/watching golf and counting down to his retirement. My MIL was trying to tell this lady that she had no idea who she was, but the lady just kept calling her a liar.

Eventually, their bocce teammates step in and break this up. My inlaws, clearly shaken by this, went to security and filed a report. When they got back, the people were gone, save the daughter, who only told security that her mom just "got a little crazy" (like ok, but what's your f***in excuse?). No apologies offered. The club manager said he would send the people a "warning email" (eye roll).

They told us this whole story when they got home tonight. I'm pissed and flabbergasted. Like, wtf kind of nuclear runoff backwater hicktown highschool shit was that? Who tries to fight two of the sweetest elderly people on the planet?

Them bougie vistancia people are edgy apparently.

Case in point, da f*** is bocce
It's like curling, but with balls and on dirt. I'd never seen it prior to meeting them.

But still. I was like, WTF man. My MIL was shook when she got back. Shaking and holding back tears. Got her calmed down. But like, shit's crazy man.

It took something like this close to home for you to find out "shit's crazy?" Society is simply nuts. People don't respect each other, especially the elderly. Now your MIL and FIL have to live with this sad memory for the rest of their life. Thank you social media.

I'm sorry your in-laws went through that. Nobody should have to deal with that kind of ugliness, no matter the context. I hope they're doing okay.

My wife works at an elementary school in Vistancia, and I can tell you that this is sadly a feature, not a bug, of the community up there. Some of the kids and parents she's had to deal with and the stories she brings home to me are simply incredible. I mean, she already gets threats almost on the daily because she's a school librarian and this is Arizona, but it's like there's something in the water in Vistancia that amps it up to 11. It's like metastatic stage IV entitlement up there.

Yeah, it's not social media - it's the proliferation and codification of the "f*** your feelings" brigade. About 10 years ago, Americans were given the green light to be the douchiest possible versions of themselves with little to no ramifications, and I guarantee you that there's no putting that particular evil back in Pandora's box.

Dude right?! Tell me about it. You never think something that wild is going to happen to ya until it does. Respecting the elderly is important to me because I was partially raised by my grandmother. She was all about the golden rule. Idk what ever happened to living by it. It's sad.

Thanks @The Feckless Puck, appreciate you man. <3

Couldn't agree more.

Random question, but I remember BA saying something like But is actually 6’8” now and Simashev is 6’7”. He’s talking about with skates on right? Has anyone confirmed this? Someone needs to get a legit measuring of these guys haha
