Timmins has been good, points aside he’s been big and physical when needed, he skates well, he moves the puck really well, etc. Let’s hope he can just stay healthy because if he can, we got ourselves a pretty good RHD.

I have been really pleased watching Timmins play, although he had 3 assists last night he really got called out at intermission with his poor coverage in the D zone resulting in 2 grade A scoring chances that obviously were not converted.

Timmins has been a nice surprise so far. Hopefully he can stay healthy and start to realize the potential he once had.

There are going to be some tough decisions when everybody gets healthy.

I think Timmins comes out of the lineup once Rielly returns and that isn’t a knock on Timmins. They’ll probably rotate him in and out of the lineup with Holl and maybe giving Giordano some rest but also working on some load management for Timmins himself to stay healthy and then get a permanent spot on the third pair next season once Holl is gone.

I mean with the way the other guys have played, Benn-Timmins is fine as your 7/8 combo.

They're just as good as a lot of the options people are talking about getting in here.

But if you bring in another option then you have more options, more options is always good.

I don't know about You but I think a guy like Luke Schenn who has won and as such You know won't get nervous in big game situations would be good to have.

I'm not asking for Klingberg, or Chychrun I'm thinking about depth.

Timmins has looked great to me so far.
I was always kinda rooting for Douglas cause we used to play street hockey as kids, but realistically I don't think he ever makes the show.
Pretty shrewd trade, well done Dubas.

You can only have so many guys on the roster and who does Schenn play over from our current top 6? Schenn is getting caved in in sheltered minutes on a bad team. He's right handed Jordie Benn.

I’m thinking this is as deep a group as I can remember us having. While Timmins is new, and has suffered injuries that makes one worry, if someone were to say ‘ hey, your 7th and 8th guys are Benn and Timmins’ I’d be ok with that. Liljegren and Sandin’s maturation has been a wonderful and needed step.

I agree completely. I think Rielly/Brodie/Sandin/Liljegren play every game they're available for. Giordano gets some occasional rest because he's old and they want to keep him fresh. Then Holl and Timmins fighting it out for last spot - likely alternating to keep both in game shape for the playoffs. Wouldn't even mind seeing a bit more of Benn, but I don't even know how we'd do that. We're loaded on D, and that's without even considering Muzzin and the small possibility he returns.

Agreed. I like what I've seen of Timmins. Even moreso when you think he's only played 45 NHL games in 4 yrs. I think he has terrific upside. Let's see what he can do over an extended stretch and when Rielly comes back rotate him in with Holl. Giordano is just too valuable to not play him. I say limit his minutes and let him play as many games as he's up to playing. Either way, you're right, this defence is loaded. Having Holl/Timmins/Benn as 6/7/8 is a luxury not too many teams have.

A bit on the slow side.

but we already have Jordie Benn and Timmins should be better than both those guys. We don't need to waste assets on more Schenn types.

Particularly when obtaining a Schenn, means we likely lose Benn or Timmins to waivers. It's spending assets, to very marginally upgrade our #7 spot. It's a foolish move (no offense Leafs34) to spend your assets on areas of want, and not need.... we may need to upgrade a top six LW, and may need to upgrade 3C....

I'd also add, that 3C is also a bit of a tbd situation. Holmberg is quietly up to 7 points in 15 games... and I appreciate that's partially skewed by 3 points in last nights game. Another ten games, work on draws, and keep up close to this pace, and I'm satisfied. At this point, his play has been good enough to suffice, defensively responsible, and maybe they've turned the corner offensively??? We can hope. So, we'd be looking for an upgrade in the dot only... which I can live without.

It's funny how the main need changes over time... everyone thought it's got to be D, after we lost Muzzin... but then we watched, and our guys showed that they were probably good enough. Then it's 3C, and Holmberg is coming around... winning me so far.... still need more time to decide for sure....

That's why I've repeated time and again... be patient, our real need will reveal itself in time.

Nobody has really taken that 2LW spot though, and put their stamp on it.

I really wanted Douglas to work out. A huge dude with a very mean streak. I’d like to wish him well but sweet Moses I really don’t want him turning into a regular NHLr. Imagine him rolling into town with a chip on his shoulder cause he was let go by us…….

Is he also pissed at Dallas who let him go for nothing?

You have to be real about needs.

A top 6 forward is need #1 anything after that is extra.

With the advancement of the kids and the eminent return of Rielly, is now the time to really start shopping Holl? His value, IMO, has gone up since he's been paired with Gio on the bottom pair. But he still makes too much for a 5th or 6th D on this team. Could we su...I mean...ENTICE...some team into taking his contract, along with Kerfoot, and a B prospect, for a potential upgrade of a middle 6 winger to play with JT and Marner? Am I valuing his recent good play too much?

I think they are going to keep him. The goal is a long playoff run, and the chances of losing multiple D as we just have is pretty high during that. Holl has shown his worth as someone who can step into these minutes if needed.

It would give the team Gio / Holl / Sandin / Liljegren / Rielly / Brodie as options able to take on top 4 minutes for stretches. Timmins and Benn would be fine bottom pairing guys, even Mete is fine.

I think they opt to keep the depth which IMO is the smart move.
