I think the concerns on Dach's effort are overblown because of a huge cold stretch and the fact that he is tall. He will take longer to fill out and get his body to adjust but I haven't seen anything that looks like his effort level itself is poor.

Filling out is not the same thing as developing a motor. The criticism of his skating is overblown in certain respects, but his consistency and effort level are legit areas he will need to improve moving forward.

A lot of players drafted in the first round of the NHL draft would be lucky to have a 500+ game NHL career. German Andreas Lilja would be a fine third-pairing defensive guy eating up 16 minutes a game on a contender. Not what the Wings need right now. Draft a guy with clear first pairing upside or draft a forward you can trade for one in the future. Don't draft a guy who looks like his ceiling is second-pair.

They aren't going to take him early if they think he tops out as only a second-pair defensemen.

No, I take Krebs over Dach because Krebs will be the better NHL player. No trade down needed on my part because Krebs is worthy of a 6th overall pick. If the brass decide they like Newhook the best I wouldn't be opposed to them taking him a 6th either. Appreciate though that I much prefer the style that these two play than many other posters do.

I do not want the Wings to trade down for the sake of trading down. My point is that the top 10 is far more contentious after 3 than you think it is.

I love both of them as prospects. At this point I’d prefer both of them to Turcotte. Krebs still is the best prospect in my eyes.

Krebs is really good. Reminds me of Larkin in terms of him getting underrated, but I see him more as a Marner-lite kind of player rather than a Mackinnon-lite. But with the same + leadership as Larkin. And lesser versions of both those players are still really darn good.

I get that and I agree with you. I just do not want the Seider = Lilja comparison gaining traction and becoming the go-to argument about why we should avoid him. If we actually do draft him, I think people will be right in questioning the move and accepting it with a degree of doubt and anger, but I would hope that the lengthy debates following such a move would be more informed debates and not the repeated cry of "we traded back to get a Lilja!"

Supposedly Stan said they're decided on who their taking, and then all this Dach stuff comes out?

... That may be a leak rather than a rumor.

If true, I'm even more hyped that @The Zetterberg Era and I are qualified scouts for Stevie.

I wonder what the odds are SY makes any moves this wknd?

10%?

depends what kind of scale you're talking about really

i'd say with as many picks as the Wings have there's probably at least like a 50-60% chance he makes a trade up or down in one of the later rounds or something like that

something bigger than that? yeah that 10% probably sounds about right

A lumberjack D-man? Seider skates very well, especially for his size, and is a highly skilled young player. You seem very misinformed on Seider.

His best attributes are his defense and physicality. He's a good skater for size, his offensive skill set is questionable as to whether it will translate. I think he's got top 4 potential but he's too risky to take that high over guys like Dach, Zegras, Cozens imo

Short of a gross over payment, I'd rather not trade back.

It definitely depends on how the first 5 picks go, if Byram is available at 5 I hope they swap picks with LA if not I'm indifferent to what they do. Dont really want Caulfield or Cozens however.

Reminds me a lot of Trouba to be honest. Big heavy shot, good passer (especially outlet) with good vision. But yes he doesn't cheat his defensive assignments to play offense. Still that is a good quality in people where defending is their primary job.

When does the draft actually start? At work again on draft night, sucks, just need to know when to take a break.

I'm expecting Zegras or Dach. I've been high on Dach all season.Zegras more recently got me interested. He reminds me of Datsyuk.

If we could snag Byram I'd be stoked. Between Turcotte, Dach and Zegras I think it's a toss up.

As someone who doesn't know the prospects from a hole in the wall, there are quite a few names being thrown around in hopes of us drafting. Sounds like we are going to get a solid player either way.
