Are the Oilers a top 5 contender next season with Jack Campbell?

Would be interested to have been a fly on the wall when Edmonton decided on Jack Campbell entering free agency. Darcy Kuemper was reportedly an Oiler target before he was traded to Colorado before 2021-22 and has roots in Western Canada. Kind of interesting they didn't revisit Kuemper and were focused on Soup.

For all we know they did try to go after Kuemper and they were told it wasn't happening

Kuemper is in the same tier as Campbell.

Kuemper sucks anyways, have we not learned from Grubauer?

14M for Nurse and Campbell yikes

Campbells a career backup goalie that looked awful behind the Leafs defence during the 2nd half of the season. Just thinking of how he'd look behind Nurse, Barrie, Ceci, etc. I get shivers

Patiently waiting for the Oilers to pull the trigger on a couple of trades that gets them Jakob Chychrun and Patrick Kane. Just a matter of time boys... Just a matter of time.

Why trust Toronto’s goalie evaluation when they decided Matt Murray was a sufficient starter for a hopeful cup contender?

As a Leaf and goalie fan alike, I have been quite skeptical of Toronto's goaltending department in general over the years. Don't really like their pro and amateur scouting, development or how they've handled their guys in house.

By association, I guess it's wait and see whether Edmonton has some special insight on Campbell or if they bought high on the wrong guy. The pro is there's a lot of runway to figure things out, the con is there's a lot of runway on that contract. Everyone knows the risk to reward anyway.
