This is the most likely case of the 3 brothers playing together but in a salary cap world if they are all as good as they project that would be a problem.
Yup . It’s at least 5 years before Quinn is not under Canucks control . By that time , the Devils will not have the cap room to try to get him as a UFA as hopefully Jack Luke Holtz Mercer Smith and others will be making big money . With Hamilton already at 9 mil, plus around 5-6 mil for Smith , Luke in a bridge at 5-6 , there is no room to offer Quinn the money he will want / deserve .

Here is my personal and formal take on this topic.

Quinn Hughes will likely end up at Devil, and in all honesty, at this point, Vancouver should blow it all up considering Benning shot them in the foot. But if the Canucks were just fine I'd say wait, but I think now is the time to trade Quinn to New Jersey, but at the same time I'd say it's not a smart idea right now. The only way I say it's not stupid is if Vancouver demands a lot back (and Jim Benning doesn't conduct the trade).

New Jersey:
Quinn Hughes

Vancouver:
1st 2022
2nd 2022
1st 2023
2nd 2023
1st 2024
1st 2025
Holtz
Mercer

Hughes has the potential to be one of the top-three defenseman in this league. And also, Vancouver might as well tank for hometown boy Connor Bedard.

This right here should in the HoF for worst trade proposals of all time, if Vancouver got even half that package it’d be an overpayment

Now Quinn Hughes is Sidney Crosby
Of course not but Ty Smith had a hot start and now that somehow puts him in the same class as Quinn?
Quinn has produced top 5 the last 2 seasons and was a ppg in 17 playoff games.

Haters enjoy shitting on his Dgame and he did struggle last year but when you put a 21-year-old as your top minute man perhaps a guy like Benn or Myers isn't the greatest partner.
Once Ty Smith starts averaging 55-60 points over a couple of seasons at the same time as Quinn since they are the same age then we can say he's as good points wise. For now, his value is nothing close to Quinn and that's not debatable. The only player on the devils with similar value is Jack but that's purely potential-based since Quinn has been a better point producer as a D and had an epically bad rookie season followed by a slightly better sophomore season.
Let's see how things with Smith vs Quinn play out this season, my money is on Quinn being better in every conceivable way.

But giving the addl assets supposedly needed to get him makes no sense. LHD is crowded already, losing the depth assets woukd open that hole larger. Quinn can come play here after his contract is up. Enough already!

Nico Hischier for Quinn Hughes. Which team says no?
I'm the devils I wouldn't do it. We have 0 room for Quinn. We have 3 #1 ld dman prospects. So in short why would we trade our top center for a dman we got no room for? It just makes no sense from the Devils perspective especially when we can get him for free by just waiting.

That's true but wouldn't Quinn Hughes be the best one?

Would you say Quinn is better than Ty Smith, Luke Hughes and Bahl

The only way the Devils are getting QH is an offer sheet or UFA. We already have to see what we have in Luke. Luke Hughes and Ty Smith are going to be the top two LD pairings for the foreseeable future.

You forgot Shakir Mukhamdullan whose also a #1d candidate. Is Quinn gonna put up the most points? Sure but is he a massive upgrade that's worth making the move? Not at all. He's not much of an upgrade over Smith in my opinion. Quinn will put up more points but Smith will have the more complete game. You gotta think whats best for the team. By trading for Quinn we become a worse team by default so no matter what trade is offered the Devils will pass.

Mukhamdullan is still 2 years away though. Who knows what he will be when he gets to the NHL. Quinn is a top pairing dman today. Him and Jack both need new contracts this year and next and putting the trio of Hughes boys together might entice them to take a bit of a discount to stay together. Not to mention Holtz might become a better player than Hischier and would help fill the scoring void. Just my 2 cents.

In a cap world just because player x is better than player y does not mean a team should go after player x. Long term I doubt the Devils could afford Quinn.
you forgot the brother factor. the three hughes brothers will all sign for less than 5 million aav long term.

and if you don't believe me, you are probably right.

all devils fans should take a timeout from this thread, as we (at least i am) should still be exhausted from the other 10 threads about the same topic. if fans from other teams are so fixed on getting the three brothers together, let them have fun. the devils should concentrate on getting a better team.

If the three Hughes will play together on same team, the earliest I can see that happening is the 2026 Olympic team. (or perhaps a world championship team in the meantime if they are all out of playoffs)

I doubt this discussion will ever truly end until the brothers all wear the same jersey - hopefully at the World Championships as soon as this season's over? Although. if they look good together it may add more fuel to the fire...

With the Devils out of the playoffs again, and assuming the Canucks are trending the same direction, is this thread worth a bump now that the Canucks are under a new regime?

As a Canucks fan, I wouldn't want to lose Hughes - his contract is great and he is playing better than ever, but if the Devils were to provide a "King's Ransom" to acquire Quinn Hughes and unite the brothers, would the Canucks bite? Would the Devils strike on this?

- Nico Hischier
- 2022 1st round pick (likely to be top-5/6 - Devils are currently 28th in the league). No protection
- Shakir Mukhamadullin

for

- Quinn Hughes

Acquiring Hischier allows the Canucks to move on Miller in the offseason if they like - Hischier is signed at a fairly reasonably $7.25m. The 1st-rounder allows gives the Canucks another shot at a player of Hughes' calibre, and Mukhamadullin is a solid defensive prospect who, fittingly enough, was taken with Vancouver's 1st-rounder sent to the Devils through Tampa through the JT Miller/Blake Coleman trades.

I know the new regime said Hughes was untouchable but I chalk that up to media fluff for deadline hype.

I’m fairly confident Devils wont even attempt to trade for Quinn, certainly won’t trade their captain + for him. If he comes to NJ it will be as a FA or possibly a deadline trade in 6 years.
