Honestly, I don’t even think it would benefit NJD to have all 3. If Luke plays a similar game to Quinn, and at the same position, does it really make sense to invest the 8mil+ in each of them? As a Canuck fan I’d be a bit hesitant to bring Luke here, we currently have OEL stuck behind Hughes on the depth chart making over 7mil a year to play a similar but inferior game and it really isn’t doing us any favours.

Ever since Luke was drafted by New Jersey, fans have speculated that Quinn wouldn't be opposed to playing with the Devils as well. Of course, it's just that... speculation. Quinn has never stated publicly his preference is to team up with his brothers, however, it's easy to see why such a move would be appealing not only to him, but the entire Hughes family...

But are the Devils interested in Quinn Hughes?

We know he's offensively gifted, but given his struggles defensively, would New Jersey give up the assets to acquire him if he could be had at fair market value?

If so, what do you think a fair market trade would look like?
What the hell kind of title is that? No pun, no play on words, nothing.

And this “topic” has been hung, drawn and quartered and then dragged through the streets to be mocked by all.

Quinn just signed a 6 year deal. It may not be 8 years but to a 22 year old, that’s a very long term commitment. If he didn’t want to stay in Vancouver then he wouldn’t of given up a UFA year.

The deal likely isn’t longer because they wouldn’t pay him a higher AAV to get more UFA years out of him.

Is Minnesota trading Kaprizov? Is Colorado trading Makar? Those are 5-6 year deals. Ratanen signed for 6 years. Pastrnak signed for 6 years.

A long contract that’s shorter than 8 years doesn’t suggest the player is not a core piece or is being moved anytime soon.

And they idea that Quinn is plotting post-contract destinations is just goofy. Someone that young doesn’t view the 2027-28 season as being just around the corner.

And as a Devils fan, do I see the team trading for him? No, not anytime soon. I don’t see why Vancouver would move him and I don’t see how we would be good after paying an astronomical price for him now.

Only way this happens is if the Devils are contending around the time that Quinn's contract is up. Hughes should be vastly outperforming his contract and Luke, if all goes well, will be on his first contract following his ELC. I would imagine from Quinn's perspective, the chance to play with both of your brothers is too much to pass up.

If there every would be a trade, it would probably be when Quinn has a 1 1/2 years left or as a pending UFA deal with the intent of extending him.

From a Devils perspective, I would hope that's when by the time he's closer to being a UFA he is in the midst of that wiser with age/experience renaissance that a lot of offensive defenseman seem to hit in their late 20s.

They can’t afford him
Huh? Devils are the youngest team in the league, have one of the top prospect pools & another top 5 pick or so on the way. They can easily afford him. It just makes no sense for them to consider trading for Quinn anytime soon as he’s not a need for this team.

How about all those Ty Smith on the same level as Quinn Hughes posters?

Oof.

Those were bad takes in September and even worse today.

Wish Quinn all the best for the next six seasons.

Devils likely reach out when he goes to free agency.

Quinn and Luke do not play a particularly similar game. As much as it'd make sense for them to do so...that's not the way the family genes dispersed, apparently.

Just so you can stop with this dumb idea
he is a canucks fan.

to stop him you need to add a few pieces from vancouver side and remove some from nj.

most devils fans already know, there is no room for three hughes's in jersey.

He is right. The Devils can't afford Quinn Hughes. Not asset wise in a trade. But cap hit wise and fit wise:
Hamilton 9m
J.Hughes 8m
Hischier 7.25m
Bratt, if resigned (hopefully) will probably command also more than 7+m
Adding Q.Hughes at 7.85m would result in roughly half the Devils cap space for 5 players. Which would quickly lead to capped out roster before qualifying for the playoffs.

I also don't think Quinn Hughes would be a great fit in New Jersey. I don't see a QHughes/Hamilton and also not a QHughes/Severson pairing.

If the trade includes Hamilton cap and usage would work better. But I don't think, Vancouver would take as much or more cap back while getting older and the Devils on the right side of their defense would get even bigger.

Both parties (and all third party lurkers) should leave the idea to RIP. The Devils keep Jack and Luke and Vancouver keeps Pylon ... äh ... I mean Quinn.
