Are Matthews and Tavares Franchise #1 C's

Tavares, obviously yes. Very clearly a top 5 centre in the league, easily a franchise C/superstar.

Matthews isn’t as good as Tavares yet, but he’s not far off. He’s ridiculously good for a kid who’s only 20. He got shutdown pretty hard against Boston, but he’ll learn from that, otherwise his first two years have been outstanding. Given his age, I consider him a franchise C, he’s the second best young guy C in the league, and he’ll be at a clearly elite level without age qualifiers real soon too.

Yeah to put it in perspective he was sold for more than the most expensive soccer player at the time. I'm pretty sure if we were allowed to offer 150m to some team for there best players which is 113m less than Neymar fee, we could probably solve our RHD just by looking a bit further down the 401 and going a bit north.
 
I think Matthews is a generational centre like mcdcvid crosby
I think Tavares is a franchise centre like malkin mckinnon kopi bergi
then there are the 1a's like monahAn seguin
 
easily both franchise players, the main boards are not a place to put stock into their opinion of leafs players
 
You can really sense the fear and how upset people are that we landed Tavares on the main-boards.

Not a single one of them likes that we have Matthews and Tavares down the middle.

And yes, you can build franchises around both.

I want it. Let others debate and trash until the end of time.

Tavares is now. Matthews isn't YET but if he starts to show a little more leadership and heart he will be.

My best recommendation to you is to avoid the main board. For your mental health, and general sanity. Wait for the season to begin, and return there. But for now, go outside and enjoy the summer.

Two yahoos actually think Matthews is not a franchise centre. I would love to hear their definition of what a franchise C is.

Also, I know we are in the dog days of summer, but a poll like this is ridiculous. Anyone who doesn't have their head firmly placed in their respective keisters know what Tavares and Matthews are.

They are both 1000% #1 franchise center's. This Leafs team will be the best team we have had in decades and they will be at that level for the next 10 years +. Pittsburgh with Sid and Geno have been class of the league since 07-08 when they made that first finals appearance and are still cup contenders today with 3 in their back pocket so far. The Leafs with Matthews and Tavares can match that I have no doubt.

100% disagree. Matthews skill level is off the charts. He is already a better goal scorer than JT. The stats prove that out. He will round out his game as he matures, but there is no question who the better player is.
