every year this team is the laughing stock of the nhl and canada also the usa and every year people come back to watch and hope that the team will get into the playoffs and then they hope that they will get through to the second round. this will never happen with matthews or marner they are to soft. as long as they are playing hockey were no one hits them they can score but the min they are going to be hit they are not able to get it in the net.

I think we can finally all agree

Clark Gilmour Sundin Roberts >>>>>> Matthews and Marner ANEC.
I’d take any one of them in prime over both m and m
I would take 23 Jason as long as they tried is it too much to ask for out of this team Are we asking more than they can give

Look, things may change. Young men do mature. But I cannot understand how anyone could have watched the tail end of this series, if not the whole series and not say that these two has gutless performances.

The sad thing is Auston Matthews was really strong in Games 2-4 even if the offense dried up in the 24 hour back to back Games 3 and 4. That happens but he still hit, played hard, had the attention to details and most importantly, the Leafs won. Really looked like he could take the next level and be a serious playoff performer at a consistent level. All he had to do was more of what he did in Game 2 and it would be on to the next round and new territory, new challenges and new chapter in his career. Then at the moment where redemption and victory was within grasp he just looked over at Mitch Marner and said "I'll have what he's having" and flushed an entire year's worth of progress away.

Yup. Ufa years.... another reason to trade him now
Well that’s good I wasn’t sure I’ll drive them there or pitch in for gas Get that Mapleleaf jersey off and get the hell off our team Isn’t it time we start a thread there should be respect when you put on the uniform Being very disrespectful to this team

Nylander was dynamic all series and then looked pretty dull on that line. Because of that, I honestly think Marner was an anchor for Matthews this year (in a bad way). I'm just shocked at how Marner out of all people could be an offensive black hole in the playoffs. What is it 19 games without a goal now? He's literally done nothing after those 2 blocks on Pasta 2 years ago.

There not trading Matthews, and I highly doubt we trade Marner. They'll just slap another cheap team around them and say its a new team because they added 1 or 2 guys.

I posted this yesterday, but it can easily be repeated as a response.

In 2017-18 Marner posted his most productive playoffs. His most frequent opp at 5v5 on D in that series were Torey Krug and Kevan Millar. Hardly a shut down duo. Since then? 18-19 McAvoy-Chara 1 pt at 5v5. 19-20 Jones-Werenski 0 pts at 5v5. So far in 20-21 Weber-Chiariot. He has produced 2 5v5 pts vs Weber and none vs Chiariot. I don't see why anyone would see these results and think Marner rises to the occasion vs tougher D in the playoffs. In 3 combined playoff years against his main defensive opposition at 5v5 he has produced like 3 pts. Total. Across 18 gp. That isn't a good sign.

Now it's 3 points, 5v5 in 19 games in the playoffs.

If we are going to make a move this offseason, to shake things up, it's Marner who goes.

Dubas has been willing to make changes. He might try again with this team, but I equally believe that he might shake things up.

We had a good team, best in the North. Well balanced, and we got some great performances from our depth players. Our D was good enough, our Goaltending was good enough.

But, our best players, weren't our best players. Two players in the top of the league in pay, and Marner gets 3 points in 7 games.... Matthews had only one goal, four assists... this just isn't good enough, or even close, for players of their calibre. It's the third playoff series in a row, where we've made an opposition goalie look good.

Maybe, if Tavares didn't get hurt, we could have gotten through, but that shouldn't matter. We were good enough to beat the Habs anyway... took three in a row from them, and then folded... Marner in particular, just not good enough.

After a season of 18% shooting, Matthews was 3.1% in the playoffs...

I don't see how he can bring the core back as a 4-man unit. Even if he loves them all, I think it's best for them and the team to see changes.

No changes will put a ridiculous amount of pressure on this team when they've constantly caved under the slightest hint of it

Sure as heck looking like these guys don’t have what it takes to even win a round. Just pure crap play. They look lazy and uninvolved in every way. $22,000,000 of giveaways and missed shots. Incredible how they choke and don’t rise to the top. That was a disgusting game. Unfortunately it’s a pattern. All talk from them two and no action. If we win they won’t be the ones that helped.

Lots said on here in the regular season that they don’t care how good we finish the regular season and it’s about what we do in the p,ayoffs. I didn’t agree, i am starting to see what they meant watching these guys disrespect the fans with this crap efforts they produce
Marner is getting paid over $17 million come July 1st. f*** that clown

Matthews is and can be clutch, but he is not the guy to put a team on his back. I don't believe he has that in him after 5 seasons of watching his play. There are certain players that do one or two things exceptionally well but cant and shouldnt be relied on to do more than capable. He is definitely not a liability defensively and is not afraid to be physical while also not actively looking to be physical.

Marner is a clown show. Honestly, that whole contract time really showed him for what he is. His terrible letter to the fans, his constant lazy and arrogant attitude combined with his monster contract took him many notches down on the likeable list. Now he has solidified himself as a soft, careless and ineffective player in the post season when relied on as a main guy. It's not acceptable for a team trying to find itself. On a team like Colorado where he would play in the shadows he could be incredibly dangerous, but he never would have received that contract in Colorado either.
