Xhekaj isn't available. He is one of the reasons Romanov was tradeable. On top of that he is a fan favourite who according to the man himself grew up a Habs fan.

I hope he is a Hab for life.

Which can be a good thing IF!
1. He doesn't get the instigator penalty
2. Him being out for five minutes doesn't harm the teams defense. Right now sadly Xhekaj is probably one of the better Defensemen they have as they have old/Injury prone/6th D in their lineup.

Once the Habs get a better D core then 2 doesn't matter as much.
-------

Anyway Devils already have a Better defensive version of Xhekaj in Siegenthaler. He might not have snarl and grit but you can get that cheaper with 3rd and 4th line guys.
Not as good as Xhexaj can supply it....Habs will not trade him....

Montreal
Massive yikes!

As a Devils fan I'd say absolutely where do I sign?
Montreal doesn't even consider if for a second.

For Montreal to even think about it, they'd want players like, L Hughes, Nemec or Mercer
Montreal will ask for more but Xhekaj is def not worth Hughes Nemec or Mercer. Not even close. Just don’t think they are good trade partner in that case

Not Hughes or Nemec, but I disagree on Mercer while really liking him. I think it's fairly close. Mercer doesn't have top line upside, but a top 6 guy. Xhekaj has top 4 upside IMO.

I 100% agree with you, I was just pointing out that they'd need to overpay for Montreal to consider moving Xhekaj

Lmao the reason habs fan are saying no is hilarious. He’s not a good defenseman. Severson is good, though yea he’s a UFA and is not going to stick around with them on a rebuilding team.

90% of the thread is people who points how ridiculously bad this trade is for the Habs, and than there's some contrarian dudes who fight over something that doesn't make senses

So.

Habs fans think it doesn't make any sense for Montreal.

Neutral fans think it doesn't make any sense for Montreal.

YOU think it doesn't make for Montreal.

But, habs fans are still homers for declining it. Got it. Thanks.

His *unique* skillset is he punches faces and is physical. He has 5 goals lmao.
He has 5 goals so far as a rookie.

Severson has 4 this year. That's less, if you're unaware. As a veteran in a contract year.

Severson has one more point in the same amount of games.

So he's already doing everything that Severson does offensively, is only going to improve in that area, and has potential to be the top heavyweight in the league.

Should I LMAO now?

I'm sure this kid has potential to be good but I have no interest in the Devils bringing him in. We have Okhotyuk to play a mean game on defense and to drop the mitts. Both of these players wouldn't see a minute of icetime in the playoffs this year unless we have injuries or Brendan Smith plays like garbage. Why exactly would the Devils trade for this kid when we have a similar player in Okhotyuk and have players like Nemec and Luke Hughes in the immediate pipeline ?

Getting X is going to cost far, FAR more then what most people think. Particularly the started of this thread. A top 10 1st wont be enough.

Habs are rebuilding their defense with absolutely no need to trade.

The guys is a legitimate heavyweight.

He's improving constantly with a top 4 potential.

Xhekaj is better than Romanov. This kid is playing his 1st NHL season and looks like he's been playing for 5+ years. Quite the surprised for the Habs. We knew we had something with him but I personally expected him to play AHL this year. The value he has brought on the ice at both ends is not something you see for a guy who is playing his 1st NHL season. He's only going to get better in the next few seasons.

Guhle and Xhekaj are untouchables. Habs will build around them on our back end. Habs very much liked Romanov but we were deep at LD and there was a situation where we could get Dach and we needed centers. That's why he was traded.
These are NHL2000 trades. There is no way X is moved unless a a proven young top 4 right hand defenseman is coming back.

He still makes mistakes but they are correctable and will disappear with experience.

High probability X is a Hab player for life.

Okh who? Apples and oranges comparison.

At 6'4" and 245 pounds at 21, X is already recognized as a legitimate NHL heavyweight in hitting and fighting.
