I enjoyed reading all the Gordon Lightfoot love in this thread. My family grew up listening to him, and he remains my favorite songwriter to this day. He was amazing at creating entire stories, moods, and images in short song. I'm continually blown away by writers who can convey strong emotions while using few words. Every album he made from his debut to the mid 70's is quite good. Everyone has a dud song here and there, but it's okay because he was so damn consistent for so long. What can I say? He was incredible.

Ranks up there with Jim Croce and Harry Chapin, just to name a couple.

I need a new car. So bad. lol

It usually pees on my left foot when it rains and I go around a corner.

This morning it upped its game and peed on both feet.

And the pillar is soaked.

Honest admission - Antipodean that I am, I'd never heard of Lightfoot. So when it popped up in this thread title that he'd passed, I briefly thought it was referring to you. I was glad to find out that was not the case!

Really? I would have thought he was more ubiquitous than that. Then again, he was Canadian. ;)

If you were my age you probably would have heard of him. He was a great story teller. He is a Canadian and his fellow musician from Canada (Neil Young) recently did this song in honor of Gordon LIghtfoot.

This is my favorite song of his.

and Neil's rendition

It's a 2008 :wally:
Yep...It may be time. How many miles are on it?

My Honda was 13 years old and had 175k miles. Things were starting to go on it. I had been planning to get a new one for a while. The clutch blew and that was it. One of the things I most enjoy (since retiring) was getting in the car and going for drives. I hadn't been doing it because I was afraid the car would break down. Now I can.

I purchased my last car. It is my first one that wasn't a sedan or stick shift. I really like it so far except for the car payments (I hadn't had any for 8 years). If I still like it in 10 years than it is a good car.

Off to my nephew's graduation. He's the first of our family to graduate with a 4 year degree. It's interesting how it went in our family- none of my grandparents went past the 8th grade. Our parents graduated from HS. Sister & I have 2 year degrees. I'm sure we're not the only family with this educational history.

Only 116,000 miles, which is actually good for as old as it is.

But the paint is terrible on it... no garage, so it gets all the elements. Missing a taillight cover. Plus other issues.

The best thing going for it is that it's paid for...lol.

It's been a good car... just showing its age. Kind of like me lol

I can relate. My Accord was a great car and maybe if I wanted to spend a couple of thousand to fix the clutch ....but there were other issues too. Bottom line i wanted to be able to depend on it and not worry about breaking down. Thankfully the clutch went in my driveway. I felt sad watching the Honda get towed away (silly I know)

I had to work in a car payment to my already tight budget but hopefully once paid this will be my last car.

Not silly at all. I totally get it.

I was the first to get a 4 year degree. and the first to live and thrive out of New England.

I'm the black sheep--totally ok with it.

I cried when I traded in my Camaro for this car. My dad had always gone with me whenever I bought a car, and that Camaro was bought just a couple months before he died. Picking out a car by myself and driving off in a different car and leaving the Camaro sitting there in the parking lot got to me.

Plus, I mean, I went from a sports car that I loved (those t-tops.....) to this granny car....lol

I bought my Honda the year the Bs won the cup.

I went from a Toyota Celica (years ago) to a 4 door Civic. The good old Civic lasted many years (14 I think) and had 225k miles. My daughter learned to drive on it. We both felt sad when we sold it for $800 and it drove away.

I like my new Crosstrek but after driving a stick for 55 years it takes getting used to.
