Makes sense! OEL fits a positional need and being a Swede helps but man, that contract. It does look like he’s improved this season but do you think he still has negative value?

I dont think any team will give the Canucks any asset to take OEL especially since OEL has a no trade clause and was only willing to go to Van or Boston.

Having said that, he is a very important player for the Canucks.

He played top pairing role this season and was excellent. He was also very very good when put into offensive role when Hughes had to miss a few games.

Its only year one but he definitely lived up to the 7.2 AAV this season.

now can he live up to it for 6 more seasons? doubt it but 1 year at a time.

According to Farhan Lalji of TSN and other reports there is a culture chemistry issue in Van.

There isnt necessarily a "cancer" in the locker room but there have been many reports that something is off in terms of chemistry and culture within the team. Some will tell you its JT Miller's abrasive personality while other reports say there are too many " relaxed" "chill" guys on the team who dont show enough intensity especially when it comes to practices. Whatever the case is, there are reports that the new management will be very very this off-season and will turn this roster upside down fit more of their liking.

Apparently everyone is available except for Pettersson, Demko, Hughes, Podkolzin.

What is your prediction on who comes and goes this summer?

Some players that might be of interest

-JT Miller- 1 yr left. 5.2 mil AAV. 93 pts in 75 games thus far
- 7.2 mil qualifying offer as RFA- however he wants long term contract probably around 6.75. Pure Sniper
- Horvat- One of if not the best face off guy in the NHL- 30 goals in 70 games. 27 yrs old
- Garland- signed long term at a very good AAV- ultra skilled and endless motor- small in size
- Hoglander- hit a sophmore slump this season before season ending injury. but is very skilled
- Myers- say what you will about the contract but he is a big right shot dman and has played like a top pairing Dman this season.
- OEL- similar to Myers, contract is big but he has been an excellent top pairing Dman this season.
- Rathbone- promising young offensive LHD- 5'10. Destroying the AHL in his rookie season- 39 pts in 35 games. He might be blocked into making the big team as Hughes and OEL are present.

The one consistent message that Allvin and Rutherford have said is that they are looking for cap relief and cap space and arent opposed to taking a step back next season in order to be competitive 2-3 years from now. Which means picks and prospects are welcomed.

Predictions? Proposals?

my 2 cents

Boeser to LA for 1st and D man prospect
Miller to NYR for young roster player, top prospect, 1st round pick

Why did you bother with the main board, you know people who doesnt watch the canucks games are going to undervalue our players, why bother? Just post on the canucks board for a more rational discussion.

The Miller trade is totally fair, any one who doesnt agree hasn't seen miller play, end of discussion.

I've watched every Canuck game for the past decade and I don't agree with your assessment of OEL at all. He has been pretty good when playing a second pairing role. His offense was extremely limited with the exception of a couple games. If he was a $4.5 second pairing guy he would be fine, but he's the 2nd highest paid player on the team for the next 5 seasons and his best hockey is behind him. I wish I could see the Canucks through your glasses, but the OEL deal was a death blow to any chance the Canucks had at being relevant over the next 3-4 years.

A team concerned with character and grit is not going to be targetting Fiala in a trade for their Captain, sorry.

He's a good player for 50% of the year, a great player for the other 50%, and a complete ass the whole way. So whiny.
What the f*** are you talking about?

If they are after a culture change chances are it's not by getting rid of Horvat, Boeser, Pettersen. Its basically code for them wanting to get rid of a clique of veterans. So Hamonic was the beginning.

Bo would only be moved if Miller signs an extension imo.

No way both goes and the roster is left with Pettersson as the only legit Centre.

If it was up to me id move Boeser Miller Hoglander and build around

Pettersson
Hughes
Demko
Garland
Podkolzin

I could be convinced to to move Garland instead of Boeser.
The Avs won’t be trading Byram. You don’t trade a 20 year year old D men with 1D potential as their likely end point. Based on his incredible play thus far, Byrams worst case outcome is top paid/2D but he’s going to exceed that. His ceiling is Norris contention. Kid has the goods to be one of the best 10 NHL defenders in the league and reach that sooner than later. Avs hit the absolute jackpot when Chicago took Dach. Byram is brilliant.

And his concussion history makes him Avs property for better (likely) or worse (unlikely).

If they manage to squeak into the playoffs of this impressive run, and then do a partial tear-down this summer because there are too many "chill" guys in the locker room, they deserve to fail moving forward. They aren't far off from having a really good team. The guy I could see being most likely to be moved is Miller if they think he wants to much for an extension, or doesn't want to play there long term. There should be plenty of interest in a lot of other guys though.

there is talk that one of the Leafs core 4 are going to be moved this off season, if that happens I'd be open to a Nylander/Garland deal.

I think Nylander is the guy that's most likely to be moved and I wanted Garland when he was in Arizona.

I don't want to move a core piece but if it is done I'd target Vancouver and Garland
Nylander is worth more and does more.
We will need someone to offset a potential loss of Mikeyev though

seems like for all the culture problems canucks have, theyve either tried to trade or resign all their top players and theyve been on an absolute tear since hiring boudreau. real strange season for them.

While you maybe right about people undervalueing your players, however living in a echo chamber isn’t a good thing either

I like this trade, but I think we will be looking for NHL players/NHL ready prospects more then a high pick

Bo isnt going anywhere though.

Miller and Myers don't fit the age range the Devils and Detroit are looking for.

You're not going to get top ten picks from two rebuilding teams who are picking pretty good to great players with years of team control in exchange for guys who aren't a part of the longer picture or will be past their prime.

Try to think harder on what trade partners actually need before dumping albatross contracts on them.
