Call me crazy, but even when I had a sense of taste, subs were borderline the last thing I was ever interested in getting. I'd prefer to get almost anything over one. To me, they're just the thing you get if you're in a group that can't decide what to get and you all just say f*** it and settle on something where nobody's happy or upset.

You're crazy. I love a good sandwich.

Around my work and where I used to live in Elmwood Park there are several excellent sub sandwich shops/delis that are much better than any chain I’ve been to. Alpine, Notoli, Al & Joes, Scudiero's, and Ozzie’s all make an excellent sub.

D’Amato’s on Grand Ave. for me. They blew up on Instagram the last year or so and now it’s a whole damn process to get your order.

I don't mind Subway, but I usually go with Jersey Mike's first, and then Jimmy John's second. Wish we had something a little more unique around here, but I ain't mad when I'm eating one of those sandwiches, so I can't complain too much.

There are a half dozen sub places that aren't a chain in most of the Chicago suburbs. They typically blow those out of the water, as well.

If you’re in the south burbs Bergstein’s NY Deli is great. Not a sub spot but killer sandos. There’s one in the Heights and apparently one in downtown Homewood.
