Got into it with my boss today. They want to install a bunch of apps onto my personal phone for work. Willing to pay me to do it. $75 a month. Told him I'll pick out a phone and a plan that costs $75 a month and I'll pay the difference. That was a no go.

Feel like that's a hard line in the sand for me.
What is your concern in doing so? My initial thought is that it would make me uncomfortable but I’m not knowledgeable enough to know why. What are the apps?

It probably should be. What apps do they want to install? I do this type of device management for a living, so I can tell you if you need to worry about it. Feel free to shoot me a DM.

If it's just about cost I'm willing to pay the cost. I don't need my job knowing who I'm talking to about what. I'm not doing anything shady but frankly if I was it isn't their business.

I have a few work apps on my phone. Camera app, security system app, log me in to remotely access certain computers. I never really thought about it.

UKG Pro, UKG Ready and some railroad intermodal Operational Display stuff. Teams I'm fine with but they want a whole bunch of permissions I'm uncomfortable with.

I also have an app to log in remotely. Fine with two factor authentication. My big hang up is I'm willing to pay the difference in cost and the answer is no? Shady as f***.

Yeah that would not make me feel comfortable. Very strange.

Marvel Rivals is like that hot, dark haired, 20-something girl with fake lips, tons of make-up, tattoo sleeves, fake tits, barely eats and only does glutes workouts at the gym.

Like, please come take my money and **** up my life forever. I want it.

If you give them access to your contacts, your camera and your microphone if they're shady enough they can read everything you send, hear everything you say and see everything your phone camera sees even if it's just in your pocket. Hate it.

Not between every shift but like hey give us your phone these two days? Lol no chance.
What the f***? lol. Yeah, that's a hard pass. Like, tell me what you want to do, and I'll do it.

If they persist, I would go to HR. That's an absurd ask.

You could also take the $75 a month and get the cheapest piece of shit smartphone there is for this purpose. How would they even know? ;)

By the way, those two UKG apps aren't really anything to be concerned with, on their own. UKG Ready doesn't require any permissions or data access. UKG Pro accesses location, photos and videos, and app info and performance. Pretty standard for any application that uses your camera inside the app.

It's the current plan. And I don't like work knowing where I'm at when if I'm off the clock.
