I think mental health is actually the biggest issue facing this country right now. Because it doesn't just cause shit like this to happen. It's at the root of most of the problems in this country right now. Most of the far right in this country, and the Qanon followers, are mentally unwell. We have unhinged politicians running amok. There are so many clearly sick, unhinged individuals among us, it's terrifying. Then you add easy access to firearms to the equation...

And yes, it's way too easy to buy weapons. Someone needs to come up with some baseline psychological tests to administer before you're able to purchase a firearm, at a minimum.
Canadians have exactly the same mental health issues, in exactly the same numbers, using your interpretation of what is poor mental health.

Yet our gun crime numbers are a fraction of the USA.

Ask yourself what the difference is.

There are plenty of decent individuals in this country but the culture is completely f***ed.

For example:
The way we've workism into a religion; worship of CEOs as great people rather than the sociopaths they are.
The insane way we value property and profits over human lives
The way we try to force our values onto other people
The fact that we, as a society, turn minor inconveniences that can save others lives into a holy war on personal freedom.
The fact that we worship at the altar of the myth of personal responsibility(in terms of finances/job opportunities)
The fact that we're so quick to judge other people before knowing the whole story.
The fact that nobody is allowed to f*** up and grow as a person anymore before being publicly shamed for it.

Rather than the Packers gear, or Amber Turd? Lol. Hard decision, IMO. Amber is a nutcase.

I mean, I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.... Even though she's certifiable.

Also, what about my post that was deleted was political??? Discussing mental health statistics and poverty rates between countries isn't at all political. Especially when it was refuting a claim in regards to mental health issues in those countries being the same. Come on.

Venting here because I need to.

My old man, easily the person I'm closest to in my life, has had stomach issues for a few months now. After not getting anywhere with doctors, he said screw it and went to an emergency room yesterday.

Today he had a tumor removed from his esophagus. Not confirmed to be cancerous (too early), but the odds aren't in his favor and the statistics with regards to survival rate are awful.

Might be the worst day of my life. I need a f***ing hug....
Shaft, hope you're a man of faith, truly helps to get through these things

The public statistics between two different countries stemming from a disagreement about what politicians should be fixing in this country is ABSOLUTELY political.

And I've gone out of my way to avoid as much as I could about the Depp Heard trial. I'd rather talk about my favorite St. Louis Blue.

Then you might as well delete the entire f***ing conversation, because you can't discuss gun violence without bringing a sliver of politics into it.

Then delete the entire conversation, and don't just selectively delete posts, especially when you left the original post I was responding to.

I can quote several posts still present in this thread that were twice as political as what I said. Like saying we need zoomers to to be in charge before things change. Or talking about a minority of voters with too much power being to blame. Or talking about how American culture is rotten to the core.

What are we even talking about here?

I left everything before my post and snipped everything after. I'll go back in a bit.

Don't take it personally, because that's not my intent. It's just frustrating trying to participate in a conversation while working off an assumption of where the boundary lies, and having that boundary shift mid conversation....

Based on posts that the moderators here made, and quoted, I assumed the political boundary was much more flexible... Evidently not.

Not my rules and not my website. Let it go for a bit because like most normal people I was upset with the gross situation we all saw play out. Your posts weren't the only ones removed.

If I took it personally I assure you that you'd know. Irish blood boils over.

Update about my old man's cancer diagnoses:

We caught it early enough. PET scan showed it contained only to the stomach, which is rare for that type of cancer (usually symptoms appear after it has spread to lymph nodes and potentially the liver). 'Localized' stomach cancer has about a 70% survival rate for 5 years (with surgery), and the oncologist wants us to be a little more aggressive with the treatment (still pushing for chemo before and after surgery), so odds might be a bit better than that even.

Again, thanks to all those who commented and/or reached out. Your leader appreciates your devout loyalty.

That's wonderful news!
