f*** cancer...

I pretty much knew this was coming, but still sucks to say that my dad has at least stage 2 esophageal cancer. It sounds like it has spread to at least one lymph node which we already knew would be likely considering his most recent CT scan showed something off about them.

We'll meet with an oncologist tomorrow to find out what stage it is and discuss treatments.

Our best hope though is chemo and radiation for a bit, followed by losing a big chunk of his esophagus, part of his upper stomach, and removing a couple of dozen lymph nodes. Maybe immunotherapy as well to ensure this bitch is dead.

I'm sad as f*** right now, but found a community online that has dealt with it with a lot of success, so fingers crossed.

Alright, accepted a job offer with a local bank. Will be my first experience working back in an office setting since I transitioned to work from home way back in 2016, but I think I'm ready for it.

I have a few weeks until it starts, so I'll have to clear through my DVR while I still have free time.

Happened right by my apartment. I heard 4 shots last night which probably means I heard at least one person die, now the second instance of this happening while living here.

Every police officer I speak with seems very angry with Chicago politics and how they're handling crime. There's a general sense that Kim Fox is making the work done by police officers futile because these criminals are arrested and then too quickly released back on the streets.

Again, a Casino in River West is going to be absolutely awful for this city and i'm so angry they approved it. We've lost control on crime here and people will very quickly not want to live here anymore. Local shops, bars, and restaurants won't be busy enough to survive the high rent prices and people won't want to visit here anymore.

f*** cancer.
Thank you for this, and a bit of update while I'm on the subject.

The cancer is technically in the very top of the stomach, so it's stomach cancer, not esophageal like we thought.

The odds aren't any better, but the oncologist does feel its treatable. He's got a lot of tests the next week to see exactly what stage, and then he'll be getting chemo for 3 months, followed by surgery, followed by another 3 months of chemo.

100% correct. Kim Foxx is the worst thing to happen to crime and policing in Chicago in a long time. An unmitigated disaster.

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread with comments about my old man and cancer and I promise I'll slow my role with these comments about it (at least until we get more news later next week), but did some digging and really liking what I'm hearing.

His oncologist today said his cancer cells were called "Her2+", which while being a fast spreading cancer, responds very well to a specific drug that will go with my dad's chemo. It's so good that, according to a dot gov article I read, it nearly doubles the life expectancy of those with stage 4 stomach cancer (meaning spread to other organs). The average life expectancy there is just over 2 years and we're pretty damn sure he's not at that stage (his CT scan on Monday would've shown the spread if it was that bad).

Basically, as long as he can handle the chemo, he's almost assuredly going to be able to see Connor Bedard play at least one season in a Hawks jersey despite this cancer diagnoses.

Again, thank you all for your well wishes. This community is easily the most frequent that I post on, and thus, felt right posting about all this here. Most every other site would just have people wondering who this Shaft asshole is after I make a post. Your Captain loves each and every one of you.

It’s therapeutic to talk about this sort of thing out loud. Even on a message board dude. We’re all happy to help and be supportive

Of all the things in the world, my four year-old is oddly obsessed with three dashcam train videos where the train goes through dozens of tunnels and bridges in the Balkans. He can literally watch them for hours, constantly asking how long the tunnels are and having us convert the kilometer measurements to miles on the fly. Certainly very pretty scenery, but he’s far more interested in the tunnels than the views.

As a result, a swing by the Adriatic to Montenegro is basically his number one trip wish. The missus and I both have South Slavic roots down by there in Croatia and Slovenia, so a heritage vacation to the Balkans is on our to visit list, but granted we had it behind a trip to the UK/Ireland and the Benelux/Bavaria on said to visit list. Maybe he’ll still be interested in a decade+?
