They weren't happy with McIntyre earlier either. On the argument of it was a problem, sure it was. But you can kill two birds with one stone. If they score goals recently, we're not talking about this.

Yep. The problem is magnified greatly by this team's inability to score. If they could even get closer to 3 goals per game instead of their usual 2, it's not even a discussion point here.

Thought Khudobin was going to be an excellent signing for this season. Whoops.

It's the right move at this point. But whoever ends up playing back up, they are not getting Rask's level of goaltending so they'd better tighten up and start giving some more goal support. Khudobin didn't play well but the team didn't always do their part either.

Thank goodness they finally figured out Khudobin needs to be gone. No matter how anyone tries to spin it he has been just plain awful this season. The defense of this team has been overachieving and is second in the NHL in avg distance out it forces teams to shoot. One win in seven starts is pitiful, and his stats are abysmal. Silly that he got as many chances as he did. His reaction time was so slow and he was lucky to not give up more goals than he did. Not sure McIntyre is the answer, but it's definitely worth a shot giving him some games and seeing if he has improved. Cannot do any worse than one win in seven starts.

I don't know the site to use anymore. Anyone care to estimate the Bruins cap space if Dobby clears?

Its basically nothing. You cant bury contracts anymore by waiving.

What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.

The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.

The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000

This is the correct move, he really struggled. I thought it was a good signing at the time considering how well he played for us 3 years ago.

I loved signing him back at the ztart of the season but e played terrible. I know Zane struggled but that was against both the Habs and NYR.But i will be very curious to see what if any more DS will make and what players are involved

This doesn't do much at all. The fact is Rask needs to be elite for this team to have a chance to win. He needs to be sub 2.00 to give this team a chance to win every night. How many goalies can do this? And how long can Rask keep this up? The fact is the backup wasn't the problem and will not lead to more wins. Instead fans are going to blame Zane if lets in more than a goal a game cause this team cant score.

I agree. This teams spot in the standings is mostly due to Rask being godlike. However I also think this was a move that needed to be made. Let's see how Zane does.

Had to be done. I called this one a few days back in the sweeny thread.

so will it be zane or malcolm who gets the call? whoever it is needs to step up. we need to be able to win on a non-Rask night if we want even a reasonable shot at playoffs.

Wonder if this might be a first step of a bigger transaction. Dom touched on that possibility earlier today in the "All bruins rumours/proposals" thread. In any regard, good to see a response of some kind by the B's in addressing a problem area. Squeezing a few more wins out of a back up could make all the difference by years end.

It addresses ONE issue, I'll agree with that. But it's frustrating that this team has substantial other problems that have gone unaddressed for a couple of seasons now.

If somehow they squeezed enough backup goalie wins to make the playoffs...meaning this is the only move they make...this team goes nowhere, and instead enters next season with many of the same issues they currently have.

Pathetic to think we could be looking at 3-4 consecutive seasons of known shortcomings not being addressed, while we wait for miracles to develop out of the prospect pool, which I contend isn't likely.

The Bruins averaged 1.88 goals per game in Khudobin's starts, only scoring as many as 3 goals in 1 start. 5 times they scored 2 goals and twice they scored 1 .A 1.88 GPG would have the Bruins last in the league.

Zane will be the next backup blamed when they lose. This team needs to start scoring. I hope Julien isnt feeding into Sweeneys head that offense will come around and they are a good backup away from being a good team. Scoring two or less goals a game is putting too much pressure on the goalie to be absolutely perfect.

Bruins offered little in offensive support for him but doesn`t change the fact that he looked pedestrian all season long outside of one game (can`t recall against whom) where he played very well

Too bad, liked the signing at the time

Based on save percentage alone,he had 5 games of sub .900 and 3 games above .930.

Hadn't felt as comfortable in a back-up in a long time coming into this season. What a nightmare the back-up goalie situation has been, essentially since Thomas left.

Perhaps I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they'd have to call him up and therefor go through waivers again. Once you put someone one waivers and they clear, they report to your farm team

I believe they now have 30 days to assign him to Prov if they wish..

Its not mandatory to go down or re-pass waivers to come back up.
