It's definitely fair to question why Subban & Zane didn't play better. It sounds like we're going to find out soon enough.

With that said their starts were early in the year when the team was still finding its legs and their callups at the time were pretty unexpected. I think they were thrown to the wolves a bit and overwhelmed but Zane looked decent in his last start and has been the best goalie in the AHL since being sent back down. I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't play much better assuming he gets some starts in this upcoming stint.

Anyway I think there's two things to debate here. Debating whether or not they have a viable backup in their system is one thing. But what I really took issue with is basically crapping on this move just because it's not the silver bullet that solves all their problems. I just don't like the mentality that only the biggest move matters.

I'm crapping on the move because it doesn't really move the needle. If they want to fix this team, they need to address other areas as well. That's all. I even said earlier, that this move makes no sense unless they do something else. I'm willing to give them time on that, and if they do make additional moves and fix the other areas, I'll gladly give them credit for it. As they haven't yet, all I can do is comment on the moves they have done.

In terms of the rest of your post, I hope you're right that they've tightened up the defensive play, because they're going to run Rask into the ground otherwise.

Look, there's a larger organizational issue as Subban needs to play. He's improved recently but paying regularly will be the real barometer. On the flip side I think MacIntyre has proved himself to be a great AHL netminder, time to see if he can handle the backup job. It's not easy staying sharp behind an elite tender and only playing a few times a month. Not looking forward to Anton in Providence, his rehab starts were as dreadful as his NHL ones.

What exactly does putting Khudobin on waivers do to fill the gaping holes they have on defense? What does it do to fix the lack of scoring from the forwards?

You don't seem to be too big on small steps. Looking for the big leap? The big splash? A long journey begins with the first step.

The 'gaping holes on defense' don't seem to be as gaping as they once were. The D isn't perfect but it's not the horror show it had been. Adding Carlo has helped a good deal. Having a capable backup goalie will give the team some confidence that the guy in the net will actually be able to stop some pucks.

Give 'em some time with the forwards. There may be some more moves coming. Again, small steps.

Looks like they're scapegoating him. They need a goalie to stand on there head, they can't deal with average goalies, lol. Well the masses got what they wanted. Wonder who next guy is to get shelled?

Fore sure. But gaining points from a roster spot that gave the Bruins 3 out of a possible 14pts is a good way to start to fix this team. If the backup had only played .500 this year, Bruins would have 7 more points and only 1 back from the Habs, who ARE getting .500 from their backup (4-4-2)...

This is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, IMO. Yeah, maybe you get incrementally better, but it really doesn't address the elephant in the room if there isn't a subsequent followup move. This team can't score more than 2 goals a game. Moving him doesn't fix this.

But moving Khudobin and his 1-5-1 record is improving the team.

Bruins backups have a 1-8-1 record this year. Playing .500 instead gives the Bruins 7 more pts in the standings. Tied for 5th in the NHL.

The backup position is a spot that needs to improve. Let's see if Zane/Subban/Anyone can do better than him. But even a weak 2-5-0 would already be an improvement...

Sure, if you think the problem resides with the backups. Given that all goalies not named Rask have looked about the same, I'm not firmly convinced it's a Khudobin issue.

For crying' out loud why is it always "the" problem, "the" problem. Khudobin was "a" problem, in a list of problems. This fixes one of them. Why now? Because it could be done now. Doesn't mean there aren't other things going on we don't know about. But it resolves one of the problems. Jeez.

Come on, haven't you figured out the shtick yet? Every move is criticized as either not enough, too much, or the wrong way to go. That way, when it goes south you can say "I told you so!" and when it works out, you can say "They got lucky on that one, but here's the real problem . . ."

Lather, rinse, repeat. There were comics in the Catskills who had less predictable acts.

Of course not. What was wrong with Gus last year? Same thing nothing. They are back ups. Are they to have a sub 2.00 GAA. 3.05 isn't that bad. He probably had theee bad games. All the rest was the teams fault.

I really like this move but playing devil's advocate here.

Zane didn't light it up in the 3 games he played for the Bruins with a 4.04 GAA and .859 Save%.

Well that's the rub, isn't it? If Boston wants to have a chance to win, given the lack of scoring and the uneven play on the defensive end this year, they need about a .930 or above GAA from their goalies. That's a lot of water to carry if you're a backup. You know, given that the very nature of your role indicates you're not that kind of player to start with...

Now that being said, I'm fine with giving a chance to McIntyre. I doubt it does much of anything, but it's worth a shot.

Sure, which is why one of my first posts in here said as much. That there are other areas that need improvement as well, and that I'm going to try and be patient to see what the subsequent moves are. I don't think this is a huge issue, but if they fix this and address the others, all is good.

They weren't happy with McIntyre earlier either. On the argument of it was a problem, sure it was. But you can kill two birds with one stone. If they score goals recently, we're not talking about this.

Glad to see this move made...I can't say that it was OVERdue, but it was definitely due. Khudobin of 2016-7 is not Khudobin of 2012-3. I hoped he'd be a serviceable backup, but the results unfortunately say different.

This is a good time in the schedule to bring McIntyre up, too. With the checkerboard schedule in January, they can put him in whenever they want, and not force games against him against suboptimal opponents. Of course, I've questioned the backup goalie decisions before....*cough Subban vs STL cough*

To be honest I was very happy when we signed khubodin... And surprised now by his fail. I wouldn't be shocked to see him get his game back together in ahl

In the meantime am hoping for signs of life from whatever kid backs up

Thats a mighty small sample size for a kid his age. We KNOW Anton sucked. I'll take my chances with the kid.
