Anson Carter unveils Alpharetta Sports and Entertainment looking to bring expansion team to Atlanta

They still charge relocation fees but I agree, this should be the easy out for the NHL.

Houston "Gets off easy" by getting a relocation rather than an expansion, and the fee is low because Houston is essentially bailing the league out from the Coyotes' disaster.
Houston depends solely on Tilman Fertitia and whether he wishes to pay the price that the NHL wants for a team. They are the 1 place that can take a team immediately without any issues (that we know has expressed interest). SLC/Utah their home would be temporary til they get a new arena that is an NHL one without obstructed seats.

NHL doesn’t have a goalie crisis. More than enough talent for expansion
I think the Sabres, Canes, Blue Jackets, Senators, Devils, Leafs feel other wise.

Detroit saw the situation coming and was smart enough to get two quality goaltenders and Husso and run a three goalie system.

Forbes is not reliable at all when it comes to the NHL. They think that Mullet Arena has a seating capacity of 17,125. They're only guessing numbers.

That is actually the old hockey capacity at Glendale/Desert Diamond Arena. So shitty update job on their part, they address it specifically in the writeup though citing the 5,000ish.

I'm not sure how this battle of the two ownership groups will play out. I've known of Carter's attempt at getting a team for a few years, but it seems like the South Forsyth group is wayyy ahead of the process with the arena setup, county approval, etc.

I'll be going to the Public Participation Meeting to meet Krause and that ownership group next week and ask questions.

The Houston debacle of late 90's expansion shows the pitfall of having competing bids for same city and how it can end up hurting attempt to bring team

Get a couple of rappers on the ownership group
Get them in the suites
Get the footage of them in the suites at the game on other mediums, and it will probably be as good of marketing for the NHL in Atlanta as anything the NHL has done since Kodak Black dry humped that woman at that Panthers game.

Great news for Atlanta

I lived there from 1997 to 2007 (before moving back to Winnipeg, beating the Jets up here by 4 years lol). In that time I got to know just about everyone in the hockey community. I'm happy that there's a chance they could get an NHL team back.

Not sure what the metro area has for rinks now. When I left there was Parkaire, Kennesaw, Gwinnet, and the Cooler. I know they put one up in Forsyth County somewhere near where I used to live. The major challenge with getting to Thrashers games at the time was the 40 minute drive

Sounds like the location for this one would be perfect for the hockey community there

Ya like I said last time I looked, 2 more teams added since, so sounds about right
Would have been nice if resource used was listed.
Honestly, can’t imagine it’s all that accurate. I actually wouldn’t think any general online source of team revenues is accurate.

If teams have 2-3 quality goaltenders, that doesn’t implicate a goaltending issue but rather teams have poor development.

Vegas just won the cup with a 4th string goalie, that doesn’t exactly scream goalie crisis

The NHL doesn't have a goalie crisis if they don't keep making goalie pads smaller, tbh.
It’s more of a skill issue than a goalie issue, scoring is trending upwards and it’s not because goalies are “bad”

The dump that was Parkaire has been gone for years. The current rinks are:
(1) the Atlanta Ice House, a brand new-ish one in Kennesaw;
(2) the Cooler, a two-sheet facility that is less than a mile from the proposed North Point Mall arena site;
(3) the Ice Complex in Cumming, which is one exit north of the planned site of The Gathering;
(4) Center Ice Arena in Sandy Springs, literally at the Roswell Road exit of 285; and
(5) the Ice Forum in Duluth, which was the Thrashers former practice facility.

Who is funding this? The only group of the people listed that seems to have a lot of money is Zeigler with 84 automotive dealerships. I'm sure he has good money, but is it pro sports money?

Carter doesn't have money, the other two groups own a bunch of minor league baseball and hockey teams.. funding an ECHL team is a lot different than an NHL club.

And the proposed Alpharetta location is in the center of almost all of them.

Cups aren't awarded on a rotating basis.
Correct! Listen, I'm actually in favor of Atlanta getting a team and expect it to happen. That's one issue. An entirely separate issue is that in a 34 team league where only one of those teams wins a Cup at the end of the season, ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL any given team will win 1 Cup every 34 years. Now you can hope your franchise can manage more than that, but there are no guarantees. So in the average random fan's lifetime they may reasonably expect for their team to win 2 or 3 Cups, maybe 4 if they're really lucky (like me ;)). Them's the facts.
