Proposal: Anson Carter: Marner for Rantanen

If Toronto wants Rantanen, they need to offer Matthews.
They are already a better TEAM without him and adding Rantanen to that? Big W.
You can‘t spell team without AM but in Toronto‘s case you maybe should at least think about it.

Avs get term and essentially a replacement for MacKinnon‘s wing who also can win faceoffs. Small W.

Both are built for the playoffs. Tough call who people would take.

I'm not one to devalue Marner and jump on his back but he is not "built" for the playoffs. There is less time and space and more physicality in the playoffs and Marner's game is about time/space and he's not some physical forward type. He doesn't suck in the playoffs and is still a very good player but saying he is built for the playoffs is a reach

I genuinely love HF, I wont quote the individuals but jumping into a thread about Rantanen and Marner to see arguments about Heiskanen vs Dahlin speaks to my soul.

Oh and FWIW, as a fan of a 3rd party I am definitely willing to trade/pay more for Rantanen. I would love either but easily value Rantanen more.

So Marner, who wants to be a Leaf for life or Rantanen, a guy who's made it known he wants a massive salary and is not loyal to the team, he wants to go where he gets paid more

And you think the Leafs shoulder take Rantanen ?

lol No, if you're starting a team from scratch or can add 1 guy to your team, sure go Rantanen.

Context matters though, Marner is a top line player that wants to be here. Rantanen would very likely walk in FA, just bad asset management.
Seriously, you look at these two guys and their current contracts and say that Marner is the team friendly loyal one and Rantanen is the money hungry one. Gimme a break

Try reading my post again

Rantanen wants the money, whether its Colorado or somewhere else

Marner also wants the money, but he grew up a die hard Leafs fan and wants to be in Toronto

See the difference ? Marner we actually have a strong chance at re-signing, trading him for Marner is losing em for nothing

We're not paying Rantanen the 14M or whatever he's asking for, he's not obligated to sign here. And even though Marner isn't, we have the extra year option + like I said, he grew up a Leafs fan

Would be a stupid trade from Torontos perspective

You can argue who you would rather start a new team with, or who's better, that's a different topic. Context matters.

I can see Toronto moving Marner sooner than AVs moving Rantanen. I'd much rather have Rantanen.

If Rantanen gets to UFA, I see a team offering 14 million. If I'm Montreal I would offer it

Aside from all the other absurdities involved in this, why would Toronto want another shooting forward? Matthews and Nylander already provide the firepower. Adding a 3rd high-priced goal-scorer makes zero sense.

Some reporter with connections with the Avs reported over the weekend that the Avs will be trading Rantanen if he’s not re-signed by the TDL. It’s likely a ploy to put pressure on Rantanen and make him realize getting to FA isn’t going to be a cakewalk. By doing this, the Avs plant the seed he might play for any of several bad teams. And if not, he’ll now be asked countless questions by the media about his impending trade or free agency.

He still has some control over bad teams with his 9 team NTC

IMO Marner, Makar and Rantanen fit better play wise than Makar, Marner and Mack
Marner and Mack are not going to mix all that great. However Marner and Makar would be magic.
From the Leafs side Rantanen would make us better 5v5 but without Marner our PP and PK would suffer.
