That fire drill happens because Liljegren plays the puck weakside, when he is the weakside D... Had he gone strong side out or just held onto it and made a play the game comfortably goes to OT. This Leafs defense is so bad that it belies logic.

They’re a no structure skills competition.

That's 3 in a row goaltending has Blown and under normal circumstances I wouldn't even be saying that about tonight because Samsonov was OK, he even made a couple BIG saves.

But It's Samsonov he will find a way to blow it, and in the end he did, like he has all season.

You can't blame Jones for the last game. he team completely stopped playing on one goal (the delayed penalty) and another goal was a complete knuckleball.

Sammy was ok tonight, but was absolutely swimming on the second goal.

People just have a hate on for Keefe regardless of what he does or says. It's nauseating.

My only comment would be, though what he said is true, you are the home team and supposedly the better team. You have to find a way to get it done.
When your team sits at home all day while the Red Wings endured the travel day that they did, after playing last night, you need to be quiet about being tired.

Poor excuse, poor coaching, poor effort.

If you watch the replay Gregor is pointing at him to go that direction, kampf stops for whatever reason instead of supporting him, had kampf continued to the corner it would have been a clean breakout

Just went back and watched. Totally missed that by Gregor

The main issue here is Keefe putting the 4th line out there with < 2 minutes to play when they were awful for the whole game.

I think it’s a bit of both. I believe the core love playing for Keefe as they basically have a hall pass to do whatever they want with no consequences. Other half have probably tuned him out and would prefer a coach with a backbone.
I agree and hence thats the cultural problem.

Tre spoke about it and ROR certainly hinted on it. Just imagine what this team would look like if ROR, Lafferty and Schenn are on the team instead of Kling, Kampf and Reaves.

I understand win and loss streaks in hockey / sports in general, it’s part of it . What I don’t understand is blowing leads for all those games. Up 3-0 last night 4 un answered . Up twice this game lost. Up 2 goals in New York lost . half way through the season we’ve blown more leads for losses than all last season.

than keef decides to make some circus changes on the fly to the lines and it backfired so hard. Some of the lines i did like but he’s out of rope . It’s wasn’t working in the playoffs now it’s, not working in the regular season. We need change and if you’re gonna keep your core, which at this point in the season i can’t see them moving on from, It has to go from either the top of the organization or the coach if not both.

keef gotta go shanny too
thanks for all you did but its time for change

There’s a very good reason for this.

Yes because we hate losing and we have been doing that for a very long time, being the laughing stack of the league while at it and with this head coach there’s no signs for better days. We have actually gotten worse so yeah!!!

we should probably sign another player to 11+ million, that will solve it.
Exactly, we have a CORE of GREEDY NON-PERFORMERS charading as STAR hockey players.

Guaranteed contracts suck !!! MLSE is a very STUPID owner !!!

Lily wasn't great on that play, but he probably saw Kampf (lol 4th line on the ice) and thought he'd come down low for support, but instead he stopped in front of the net, where McCabe was heading. Strong side wasn't an option because the winger was covered.

But yeah, the play was probably to eat the puck.
Kampf is the center and his job is to stop in front of the net to provide support. If he goes behind the net and the puck is turned over both D and your C who are responsible for covering the homeplate area are stuck below the goal line. The reason strong side would have been preferable is because both Leafs D were on that side so even if you turn it over you are still in decent shape defensively. The best play was to skate it weakside and try to make a pass on the forehand.

Liljigren has done this before, he has a bad habit of making unforced errors at the worst times.

No structure in the world can help you if your defenceman plays the puck like that with no pressure. I've been saying it all year, this defense is so f***ing bad I'm having trouble evaluating the team myself. And when I say defense that includes the forwards...

The fans hate losing.

Most of the organization's important pieces do not...and that is the whole problem.

I would give Lilly some rope as thats part of his learning curve. Also McCabe being more vocal on the ice would help too.

He's a warrior out there all while carrying Brodie's corpse around the ice.
100%. If only Tre signed Schenn in the off season. Reilly would be even better as he actually have someone that can do the job beside him.

I hate to say it, but even I can't defend Brodie. His game has fallen off a cliff.
To me thats very interesting bc his game was never about speed and quickness but more to do with reading the game and being in position. How can you lose that over night.

Treliving has his work cut out for him.

Leafs have Rielly McCabe and Timmins under contract for next season. Liljegren and Benoit are RFA. The below are the lists of UFA’s currently. The defense needs a complete overhaul and he’ll probably do that next off season.

Benoit should ask to be traded. He has some guts and deserves to move on.

As a C you're taught to stop in front of the net if both D are red line or below. In that situation he probably could have got away with sinking weakside because McCabe had his man tied up and there was no immediate threat in the slot, but that's not what you are taught and it certainly doesn't excuse the pass by Liljegren which is made after Kampf stops net front (not before).
