Soucy should be worth more than a third. It's a defensemen wasteland out there.

He's not playing well and has another year left. A 3rd is a solid return IMHO. I think EP2 and Forbort can handle the 3LD just fine and the $3m Soucy makes could be put into a forward upgrade in the offseason. Cap space is probably the most valuable asset in that trade not Soucy or the 3rd.

Sorry, "significant" discount

Would be funny if he went back to the AVs as a UFA

Also it’s relative, if he thinks he is worth like 15M because he thinks he is the best winger in the league, taking like 13.5M instead would be a “significant” cut.

That would be wild, I think once you leave something, at the moment you might think I’ll come back but then after a little bit, it’s more likely you just move on and want to try something else. Especially if that somwthing else is going get you hella paid.

Why would the Canucks dump Soucy for a mid pick this season? They don't need the cap space right now, and his value can't really drop much further.

They'd be much better off holding on to him if they can't get a good return. He might bounce back, or at the very least gives them another body in case the injuries start piling up again. Hughes is injured, Forbort seems kind of injury-prone, EP2 is young and may struggle at some point.

And I imagine he'll have more demand in the off-season, especially when his full NTC becomes a 12 team no-trade list and the cap goes up.

It doesn't matter if he's having a rough go. Thanks to expansion there's not enough good defensemen in this league to go around anymore - scarcity, size, and prior reliability will drive up his value.

Teams that got priced out on Marcus Pettersson will be scratching their chin about Soucy. I really do expect a second, or at least multiple picks coming back.

Yeah, at this point it seems like they are addicted to making moves.

It there was a time to get Josh Norris at pretty steep discount I would think it would be now. They can’t really afford to keep him next year even with the cap going it’s going to be struggle. Can they wait until the offseason when everyone knows they need to move him.

Boeser @50% for Norris+ would be a interesting trade obviously the medical reports and everything would need to check out.

It allows Ottawa to complete there second line and have 5 million to work with to upgrade the bottom 6 and the defence.

Nothing you say is wrong, but even best case how much is his value going to change? Go from a 3rd to a 2nd? Or maybe he gets hurt again, plays even worse, and becomes a negative value contract that costs us a 3rd to move?

He does give us some depth, but this season he hasn't really brought anything more than Juulsen, Forbort or Friedman offer (as far as overall effectiveness). Add in Willander eventually and even KK, not sure Soucy adds much over the other options.

Now I wouldn't give him the Sprong treatment, or even something like a 5th. But if there's a 3rd on the table with no retention, gotta consider it. I'd also be happy with a solid RH 4C that is good at face-off and can PK.

It's funny Soucy stunk last year to start as well then spent a good portion of the year injured and when he came back he teamed up with a Tyler Myers who was playing really good hockey and looked like a 4/5LD. Having Cole and Zadorov to spread the minutes and heavy lifting made it easier to be effective and he was

This year he again stinks to start but the top players are all fighting underproductive and injured. The Desharnais Juulsen Brannstrom Brisebois train is purely awful and he gets more heavy lifting playing from behind with worse goaltending worse situations and worse partners to bail him out and he mostly looks like a 4/5 LD.
Soucy was actually fantastic for the first half of the season last year, and people were upset when he got injured and were quoting our record with him in the lineup, and it was something like 10-2 or something. We were a bit shaky and had a bit of a losing streak when he was out and then he came back and the defense immediately stabilized again.

flip flip flip flip flip

So Sportsnet is reporting that Soucy is officially 'on the block'. The thing I find more than a little intriguing about this management group, is how quickly it becomes public that players are on the trade block.

It's almost as if somebody inside the organization is out there spinning trades to the media. And entire world knows a guy is about to be dealt.

Soucy has a full NTC, but then so did Miller. What would Soucy fetch? Well, the price for d-men goes up dramatically, closer to the TDL. But then he does have an extra year on his contract at more than $3m.

But I doubt Allvin waits long. It looks like they're committed to Elias Pettersson II on the left side, unless his play rapidly falls off a cliff

i completely agree.

to me soucy is fantastic playoff depth given he plays both sides. they'd be fools to trade him in season and that would be relocating his baby twins mid season or moving him apart from his wife and kids. this kind of speculation is shitty imo.

I disagree, I think he’s a decent defence man, but he’s having a terrible season, and he’s making 3.25 next season which we could use that money and put it into something more productive.

Also forbort has been completely fine, and also we have the young kid im dpetey.

It makes a lot of sense trading him.

Yeah, but when do we need the cap flexibility? At this year's TDL or next season? If it's the latter, just keep him as a self rental since we already have a ton of cap space for this TDL and, to be frank, I don't trust Trader Jim to spend all of our futures like a drunken sailor filling even more cap space from having Soucy off the books. We can always deal Soucy in the offseason, unless the offers are too good to turn down.

Only useful to playoff teams

He has a no trade clause, he isn't moving if he doesn't want to move. It's in his own hands.

Meh
He had 6pts and averaged 17:25 through 21 games of hockey by March.

He hadn't done fuxx all but be a decent #5 with some promise early on and plenty of run support great goaltending and defensive depth to be mostly solid

This year he's been in the Matrix

I was doing a bunch of quotes and Soucy was 19-2 at one point when he was in the lineup. Soucy was very good before his injury, very steady.
