Stewart did a number on Stuart. lol

I really don't know why people have such a problem with someone sticking up for a teammate. If you really don't want to fight just turtle and make sure you draw the Instigator. So much pointless crying.

Which is much better than crying about the crying? :shakehead

A hit like that is a legal play, separating the guy from the puck. There've been many instances where a huge hit results in a great offensive chance for the team throwing the hit, but play gets stopped because one of the guys teammates gets all butthurt and jumps the player who threw the hit.

This is hockey. Huge hits are part of the game. Keep your head up and keep playing.

Does not matter if his jersey was tied down or not. If you come off the bench and immediately start a fight, in retaliation, you are getting the extra penalty.

So we disregard the rules if a guy comes off the bench and challenges you?

It's funny how you Wings fans do a complete 180 when it is your guy doing the hitting.

It's different. The guys Stewart hit got right up and was not hurt. Why do you need to defend a player that just got hit? It's really dumb.

It's just that this is a complete non-issue. Rules exist that govern this exact behavior. Stuart hit the Blues' star player, Stewart went after him to send a message and subsequently got a penalty for his trouble, and then the Wings scored on the powerplay. End of story. Why does there need to be a thread about this? To ***** out vcash?

Yes..his will to act like a fool and hurt his own team

Keep it coming, Chris

C'mon, the Red Wings' response to Stewart boarding Kronwall was more pathetic than Buffalo's response to the Miller-Lucic play. Throw in too that Stewart just able to have his way with Brad Stuart.

On a side note, I doubt that the other Blues players and Hitchcock had a problem with Chris Stewart. Hell, they probably liked what he did.

Because Stewart was given the instigator, it does not matter if Stuart's jersey was tied down.

Stop the video posted when contact is made at :47 and, at best the shoulder hits him at the neck, at worse in the face. Close enough that it should be at least questioned.

Unlike us, Chris Stewart doesn't have the luxury of watching replays in slo-mo from multiple angles to tell if it was clean or not. On a live look in real time that could come across as a hit to the head. Plus, he didn't completely maul Stuart to start the fight. Brad Stuart could have skated away.

I think Chris Stewart did the right thing.

This post needs more recognition.

It's ridiculous when someone(the OP in this case) calls out a player for fighting after a clean hit when that person has the luxury of watching the replay 3 or 4 times. When watching in real time(without the benefit of prime camera angles or replay) at ice level, the legality of the hit isn't so concrete.

IF Stewart was on the Ice when the play happened I see no issue...

But due to the fact Hitchcock sent Stewart out right after the hit, he then completely ignores whats going on an charges Stuart...

To me that makes it the NO NO, and totally makes him a complete Bonehead.

So is fighting, it's just the one thing that the outstanding team you follow knows nothing about.

But they never have to find out about it because of the lunacy that goes on at the Joe 41 games a year. (Seriously, look at Langenbrunners penalty in the second)

Stewart will be suspended for coming off the bench and going right for Stuart. It's inevitable. Also did S=Hitch bench Stewart or was he hurt? He didn't play for a lot of the 2nd.

Close enough that somebody will second guess it, but is is shoulder to chest, stuarts elbow is in.

Elbow doesn't matter, the point of contact does and, since his shoulder is at the same level of the blue shoulder yoke, it's pretty clear it is up near the neck at the lowest. Borderline hit at best.

(sorry screen grab is so small)

Don't see how it's suspension worthy at all. But of course it's Detroit so who knows.

Do you know how many times goons come off the bench and look for a fight right away? Brad Staubitz did it the other night.

You could hear a pin drop in the joe in the first period. Dumb penalty to take on a clean hit. That was not the time for payback. Completely different game now. Don't get into a special teams battle with the freeking red wings...

Ejoshie. Don't compare this to the cole hit. Perfectly clean hit.

just a good clean hit dont know about destroyed... but stewart did destroy stuart in the fight holy crap...

Haha I've watched it 7 times now. I can't believe a man can get beat up that badly by anyone. I know Stewart is a better fighter but as a human being you have to be able to defend yourself better than that.
