Another fight after a clean hit (Brad Stuart obliterates Pietrangelo)

Now Howard goes crazy again trying to act tough with those huge pads and mask on. He always throws these little temper tantrums and gets all whiny.

It was 6 on 5

and he was run by 2 blues players, and got forearmed in the head by the 2nd guy who came in.

hes supposed to get involved when there is a scrum and **** 6 on 5.

This is so stupid. Why should Stuart have to fight Stewart?

EDIT: Stuart nails Pietrangelo... "Obliterates" him... Clean hit though.

haha no the real obliteration was when STEWART fought STUART.
Chris Stewart absolutely owned him in that fight. Ref Wings are *******.

That was an awesome hit by Stuart. Thats the way hockey should be. What Stewart did was also the way hockey should be. You stick up for your teammates. If you get an extra penalty so be it. If it cost you two points so be it. After reading all the different opinions on this thread one thing is very obvious. The majority of the posters here are either teenagers or in their very early 20s who never watched hockey from the late 70s thur early 90s.

Noone in their 40s or older believes in the instigator rule. Anyone crying about Stewart jumping off the bench and going right after Stuart is the product of the Bettman era. If you dont like it there is always Disney on Ice or the Icecapdes for you. I personally loved both ends of the play. Good hockey all around.

And yes I am a Blues fan with season tickets for over 20 years and I can appreciate old time hockey and a good clean hit against one of my players.:handclap:

Lovin the Wings hate. Howard protects himself because the Blues pile on him and are tugging on his mask. Stewart certainly threw a lot of punches but I am not so sure all of them connected. I think it looked worse than it was but it looked pretty bad haha. Pietrangelo needs to pick his head up and stop getting dusted all over the ice.

Call me biased, but I'll be the first to call my own team out on anything. However:

Stuart's hit was clean, flat out. No contest there.

Stewart did not "jump" Stuart in the sense that he did not give him a chance to defend himself. That was fine. The only personal issue I have with that is that it was after a clean hit, which is sometimes good to defend your team but mostly annoying and childish. Anyways, I digress...

Stewart came off the bench with the sole intention of fighting; he did not engage in the play. That, by the NHL's own rules, warrants and probably will draw supplemental discipline.

Yes, Stewart put a beating down on Stuart. I'm going to refrain from putting my own opinion in on that because at that point a fight is a fight, and Stewart got the better of it, it doesn't matter who was fighting who.

I hope he's satisfied with that though, as he'll probably be sitting for a game or two for it.

I was at the game, felt like a playoff game!

I really enjoyed after the scrum with Howard the Joe kept looping Elton John's, "I guess that's why they call them the blues, nothing but children."

I don't see what the problem is here. There are plenty of fights after clean hits in the NHL, and the more I think about it the more I don't have a problem with it.

Anyway, it's not like Stuart didn't agree.

As a final thought, why would you agree to go with Stewart? Perhaps people have forgotten how good he is at fighting now that he's not out throwing with the other teams tough guys with regularity, but if Stewart wasn't a goal scorer he could probably make it as quality NHL middle to light heavyweight.

Absolute BS. That garbage should not be condoned. As ive said before can you imagine how terrible football would be if a linebacker new he was going to get pumped for hitting the quarterback. Fighting should be taken out of hockey. The sport would be better for it.

:shakehead Why watch the sport and why post on the topic if it disgusts you so much?

Instead of everyone snapping out that a fight happens after a big hit, can we please start applauding players who actually have the balls to back up actions.

Big clean hits lead to concussions, so of course the other team will be pissed off.

If your gonna hammer someone clean or not, you should expect to fight afterwards. Its the guys who can run around hitting and wont fight that are the problem.

You can disagree, but I don't see what is awful about the logic in and of itself.

I wouldn't agree in it's entirety, but I do think that there is an argument to be made that fighting after big hits reduces incentive to run other players or look for big hits, which is the main cause of todays leading issue, that being concussions.

What message did Stewart send? He got put in the box for 15 mins, the Wings scored the game-tying goal on the PP, the Wings cranked up their physical play the rest of the game and the Blues lost a huge divisional game. What a great way to send a message.

I think the main cause of these injuries we are seeing is not looking for big hits necessarily, it is players trying to lay big hits when they are not there. Not disagreeing with you, but a big hit is something that can really swing the momentum of a game, and stopping play to fight over it seems wrong to me.

If a player is running around and hitting everything in sight, with total disregard for other players safety, someone should step in and whip him. But Stuart picks and chooses and he caught a guy coming across the blue line with his head up, but not looking at him.

Rule #1 for a defenseman is step up at the blue line, make them think twice about coming into our zone. That is exactly what Stuart did. I would have no problem with Stewart making him answer the bell after a whistle, or later in the game, but it stopped play while the puck was in possession of the Wings.

And they destroyed Pietrangelo all game long. They basically knocked him on his ass almost every shift he skated.
