I'm already preparing for the "Andre is our 'trade deadline acquisition' this year" talk from the front office when we do the usual "we like our group" in the summer.

I think the Borg does make a big acquisition this summer. But instead of going back and forth, want to wager some of that sportsbook cash they give us? Can it be even used like that? I'm not at all familiar with it.

So I just went back to the Vegas game and fast forwarded to where Svech was hurt. With about 7:20 left in the 2nd, he had a 1-1 with Martinez and Martinez broke it up and the tussled along the board in the corner. Everything was good there as Svech skated normally up the ice. Then as the puck came back up the ice, you could see Svech going for a hit on Martinez just inside the VGN blue line, but unfortunately, the hit was off camera on the Canes broadcast, so I couldn't see what happened. He went down the tunnel right after that.

So you're saying Martinez maliciously attacked him purposefully causing injury but unfortunately there is no video evidence? What a dick.

I'll wager some sportsbook cash. What are your parameters for the wager? To be clear, I know we will pick up some new players to replace guys leaving (3rd pairing quality defenders, bottom six wingers, etc.) but my "we like our group" comment was specifically referring to the lack of bringing in a top six quality player. And by top six quality player, I don't mean some analytical guy thinks he will be a top six, I mean he has played a substantial amount of time top six on another team and he is not a 35+ year old who last played top six when he was 27.

Still want to wager?

This is too subjective and will just result in fighting.

For the record, would you have considered either Burns or Pacioretty to be a "big acquisition" this offseason?

I will counsel you against this course.

Lakelivin got that lake house from being a bettin' man....look how he's crushing everyone in the first goal contest.

Burns, absolutely. That was a great addition last summer given the need and the way we play our defense. I loved that. Patches I figured was less than a coin flip to play more than 60% of the season and I was concerned with his foot speed in our system. He seemed like a middle six addition to me as I thought he would likely find his spot on Staal's line to be responsible and add scoring. I didn't hate the move, but I didn't think he would be the top six scorer we needed. Clearly I was too optimistic with the time he played.

Oh, I don't bet real money. And I don't mind being wrong either, so nothing to lose there. In fact, these are the bets I love the most: get it right and I got bragging rights, get it wrong and I am happy because it is the outcome I prefered.**

**which is why my NCAA brackets never have NC State advancing. Easy peasy.

I mean, I get the sentiment, but Puljujarvi couldn't produce playing next to McDavid. We acquired him to essentially be another Noesen. Someone who gets very little even-strength time, but can be a big body in front on the powerplay.

If we're banking on him being more than that, we're setting ourselves up for disappointment.
I seem to recall that Puljujarvi wasn't bad last season in Oilers, including on McDavid's wing, but then became complete ass again this season. In that context it seems to have been mostly a mental issue. That gives a glimmer of hope that the change of scenery as such, and then the chemistry with Aho, if it's actually there, can help his game here.

I'm not sold on the chemistry thing though. It's been a long time since that WJC... But they looked okay last game even when they didn't get any shots in the net? I've only seen the highlights and that's obviously only a piecemeal and distorted view.

Sure, I'm still willing to wager. The type player you described above is exactly what I'm thinking of. Do you disagree that Patches would have counted as a legit top 6 guy? He was 33 when we got him and close to a point a game for the prior 3 seasons. What about Trocheck, would he count? I'd put him as just sliding into a "yes".

We could see if maybe someone neutral like DaveG would be willing to act as arbitrator if there's any disagreement. But I think chances are it will be pretty clear of else I wouldn't have suggested a bet in the first place, lol. And it's not something I could get too worked up about even if there is disagreement. Just one more thing to add interest to the off season.

I would have said yes about Tro as he was/is a legit 2C on a contender. As I mentioned in my response to Anton about Patches, I was thinking he was truly a middle-six guy given his injury history and age, but I am willing to let someone arbitrate on a situation like that.
