If we even think he needs surgery, shut him down and get it done so he can return sooner rather than later. Get it outright fixed.

But yeah, we are pretty hosed. No Patches or Svech, and we'll be lucky to stay in first in the Metro and there's no way we make it through NYR, NJ, and then BOS/TOR/TAM. It is what it is, a wasted season.
It sounds defeatist but if Boston lost Pasta/Marchand or Tampa lost Kucherov/Stamkos then I would say they were toast as well.

Carolina would have buckling down and holding on against NYR in a Will vs Skill competition with Svechnikov. Without him I don't see Carolina taking more than a game or two now against any of the top teams in the East.

Imagine with more games and practice time, if somehow that line became dominant. I mean the ingredients are there. That much we know. Whether it ever translates to NHL success is of course another matter.

I mean, I get the sentiment, but Puljujarvi couldn't produce playing next to McDavid. We acquired him to essentially be another Noesen. Someone who gets very little even-strength time, but can be a big body in front on the powerplay.

If we're banking on him being more than that, we're setting ourselves up for disappointment.

does this put a damper on us signing Patches? Lets say Svech is out until December / January. Do we want to risk a signing of Patches to also come back at the same time?

No one is banking on it. This is called the what-if game. Sometimes its fun.

If Patches is willing to take a very low-dollar deal, which he certainly should given his situation, then what's the harm in it?

is it low dollar only or do we not want to risk the P.B piece due to the uncertainty of Svech too? We arent likely to want to or have the ability to roll a performance bonus over.

The difficult part I see is that they don't want to be in LTIR if they want Patches and Svechnikov to come back mid-season.

Need to have cap space for them to start the year, which means the team will be shorthanded to start the year.

I don't see him being in a position to demand much beyond a basic $1M type contract. The guy is coming off his second Achilles tear. If he wants the kind of contract that would put us into cap trouble, I have no problem letting him find that on the open market. If anything, he's probably going to be a PTO situation during training camp, just to show he can still play.

I do wonder how much patience we really have. Wouldn't be surprised if they push for a big add via trade this summer to have one more high end piece that can help offset what is quickly turning into an injury plagued roster.

I'll be surprised if they don't do that. They reportedly went hard after both Tkachuk and Meier this year. Next off season I see them aggressively looking to add another high end center. Any chance at Petterson? Lindholm? PLD? Someone else not on the radar?

In case anyone wants to know what the league thinks about the Canes, here comes an official account from the league, hyping up the Svech injury announcement

I had forgotten about Dzingel. Think hes missed like 40games in the minors due to some unknown injury.

He did score in his last game with the Wolves. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him come up. Unlike Stastny, he can at least skate.

I wonder, if surgery is needed, will Canes use the same Turku guys who did Patches? They now got two months of experience on the rehabilitation methods.

hard to say although I would think they would search out the best knee Dr., wherever he or she is located (btw: I would be pleasantly surprised if its non-surgical).

Dzingel just got back from a long term back injury. he finally scored his first goal in the AHL just this past weekend.
