If he's done, we are done.

I hate to put it in an absolute like that, but he's way too important to what we want to run that losing him pretty much guts the heart of the team. We don't have the talent to overcome losing our most physical forward who tilts play whenever he's on the ice.

And now the conspiracy theorist in me can't help but notice they waited until riiiiiiight after STM renewals (to guarantee playoff priority) to announce his injury despite them possibly knowing on Thursday

30 minutes ago I doing the math in my head while driving home if Carolina had a player on the roster as good enough to push them over the top in the Playoffs and came to the conclusion that Svechnikov would have to be the guy

Welp, warm up the offseason bus

Fans/media will write them off from doing anything in the postseason, but they’re capable of clamping down and playing any team into a series of bounces. This is not a free pass for New York/New Jersey/WC.
won't disagree.. but I also won't put any money on the canes doing that.. Even if it's fake Money..

I'll try and make this short and sweet.

The team is just going to have to trot on without him. Necas, Jarvis, KK, Aho, TT, etc are going to have to pick up the slack. There is zero excuse for these players going into a scoring drought, they cannot do it. They have to f***ing score.

Please don't bring him back early. It is absolutely not worth destroying a young man's future health for a championship. I appreciate that Hockey players are tough SOBs but players playing on torn ACLs scares me, and I know it's happened before.

They have him locked in for 7 more years at almost $9mil per They aren’t f***ing around with him.

I do agree with this, we can still win a series or two. Just can't see us winning it all. I do think this team right now without Svech is still better than 2018-19 overall. As potential underdogs/being written off too the team may play with that chip on the shoulder that we played with in '18-19. Honestly think we've been missing that the last couple years when we've been favorites in most series.

Has anyone ever got a 2nd opinion and had it not be the worst case scenario? Pro sports wise.
Yes it happens a fair amount, certainly not common or more than like 10-20% of the time but there are plenty of times "feared x injury" turns into "actually y injury that is still serious but not as bad."

A torn all at his age could be career altering?

I don't even know what to say. There goes the season. Really gald we didn't go all in
Depending on the partial tear, a complete tear and surgical repair may get back to 100% more easily than a partial tear healing on its own.

And it’s entirely possible Svechs last injury was a partial tear that was slow to repair naturally.

This isn’t 20 years ago; an ACL isn’t a career death sentence anymore.

i gather we will have plenty of cap space next year. I don’t expect to see Svetch on the ice until ‘24 and hopefully no impact to his speed.

Btw: how the heck did he get hurt and was it the same knee as before?

Didn’t Justin Williams tear his ACL at like 23, 20 years ago.

Yeah and it took him years to recover, with us dealing him to LA because it took so long and we needed help
That was his 2nd time when he was 27. We dealt him 32 games into the season after his injury. The first one, when he was 22 he was skating 3 months after starting rehab (see the article I linked above).
