I do agree with this, we can still win a series or two. Just can't see us winning it all. I do think this team right now without Svech is still better than 2018-19 overall. As potential underdogs/being written off too the team may play with that chip on the shoulder that we played with in '18-19. Honestly think we've been missing that the last couple years when we've been favorites in most series.

Yes it happens a fair amount, certainly not common or more than like 10-20% of the time but there are plenty of times "feared x injury" turns into "actually y injury that is still serious but not as bad."

Even just go back a year. Svech had a nightmarish postseason (5 points in 14 games). They still came within a game of the Conference Finals.

Yeah and it took him years to recover, with us dealing him to LA because it took so long and we needed help
That was more because JR is a "f*** it, I'll do it!" type GM. He has never had much patience. Waddell is almost the exact opposite in this regard.

But yeah, this sucks for Svech though but it's not a death sentence to his career. Lots of players in all types of sports have come back from an ACL injury to play at a high level.

For me the point is more that Carolina winning a Cup pretty much depends on players like Svechnikov and <Forward using Pacioretty's $7 million in Cap> producing when it matters.

Carolina was also one Max Domi Game 7 (at home) performance from a 1st round exit. I don't see even that pop on the team right now with so many key forwards out.

I do wonder how much patience we really have. Wouldn't be surprised if they push for a big add via trade this summer to have one more high end piece that can help offset what is quickly turning into an injury plagued roster.

Yeah but on the other hand do we get past Boston in Game 7 if Svech doesn't knock out Lindholm in Game 1.

Us without that kind of physicality isn't going to bode well. We were already a soft team and we just lost our most physical forward

So this was the only video I could find (in the link). Was this catching of his edge near the red line what caused it? Or was there a hit or incident earlier and this was after the injury had already occurred and his knee was already weak at this point as it seems to buckle fairly easily in this video?

EDIT: This article says he injured it checking Martinez, so the video above must be after that incident and the knee is already injured. I couldn't find a video of that though and I don't recall anything noteworthy when I watched but I had it on in the background.

Svechnikov, 22, injured his right knee Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights after checking the Knights’ Alec Martinez. He left the game in the second period but later returned and played in the third as the Canes lost 4-0.

If it’s just the physicality we’re looking for, Puljujarvi is probably closer to a 1-for-1 substitute.

Of course, it’s not just that, and success in the postseason would almost certainly have involved Svech doing better than 5 points in 14 games. But at least on the height, weight, and speed chart alone, Puljujarvi is an interesting facsimile.

How long has he been playing on a bum knee that finally tore? He has 4 goals during in 23.
One article I read said he injured the knee checking Martinez during the Vegas game so it seems like it happened during the game and not something that has been there but progressively getting worse but who knows. Even a partial tear of the ACL would destabilize the knee and have a big impact in lateral movement. I haven't noticed anything amiss with his skating/movement prior to this game. Only speculating, but if he had a bum knee before this, I suspect he would have at least been held out of a lot of practices and what not or been spotted with a knee brace, etc...

F*** you Alex Martinez for taking that Svech check.

If we even think he needs surgery, shut him down and get it done so he can return sooner rather than later. Get it outright fixed.

But yeah, we are pretty hosed. No Patches or Svech, and we'll be lucky to stay in first in the Metro and there's no way we make it through NYR, NJ, and then BOS/TOR/TAM. It is what it is, a wasted season.

Well that sucks. The season must go on. If we could get consistent goal tending (performance/health) we might still have a chance, but that was gonna be the case with or without Svech. I'm almost more concerned about that for this post season than losing Svech, although that's also a major blow. He certainly brings a physical aspect no other forward can bring. Maybe JP now, but I haven't really seen that yet.

I'd try:

TT-Aho-JP
Jarvis-KK-Necas
Marty-Staal-Fast
some combination of the rest.

Was thinking about the same top line this morning, why not?

The 2nd line is a conundrum, not sure what to do with Jarvis. Was thinking maybe Stastny there as the LW on that line. Then maybe get Jarvis some miss-matches when he’s out against other teams’ bottom 6/3rd pair.

No good or easy solutions

This season be like….
