I liked Andersen when he was paid like a slightly above-average starter and performed like a well-above-average starter. Now I'm just grateful that his contract is up.

In the Burke/Nonis days he'd be signing a 5 year $42.5 million extension any day now. Dubas and Shannahan are not this stupid.

Good FKN riddance, Fredmeister

The decision is becoming clearer every day.

Yes, our defense has holes. But its the goalies job to cover those holes. Hes failing at that job. If he makes a couple more saves we gloss over the D mistakes. You cant shrug shoulders every time a goal goes in off a defensive breakdown. You need your goalie to make a certain percentage of those saves. Hes not making them.

If you'd told me that was James Reimer swimming around last night, Id believe you. He seems to lose track of his net very easily these days.

Honestly, I could see us going into next season with a combo of Campbell and a re-signed Dell.

While I don't like how the defense plays in front of him, Andersen just can never bail his team out. It always feels like the other goalie can make that save, whether it be by luck or positioning. I've stuck up for him since day one but he's made it very hard to do so since. I feel like career backup Campbell is much more stable. More of a Price, machine-like goalie. I think we're better off with a 1A/1B goalie system.

Time to give Campbell a chance and an extended look. What is our commitment to Freddy? We know who he is by now.

Might as well see if Campbell has what it takes to be more than a backup. He'll be here next year, after all. Freddy (hopefully!) won't be!

My buddy and I were chatting and he mentioned Fred has the yips, and it kinda hit me that "yeah. He does".

The yips is the colloquial term for a sudden and unexplained loss of skills in experienced athletes. Some credit the yips to a loss of fine motor skills; others consider the condition to be primarily psychological.

Hes a goalie past 30, whos never really heen elite, never won anything, has like an 0-8 record in game 7s, is getting progressively getting worse, added weight in the offseason, and looks like hes "fighting it" in the net

Yeah.... time to move on soomer rather than later

Andersen never looks good at the start or end of the year and that's a huge problem for the team. Hoping Campbell gets a good look this year. He has nearly identical numbers to Kuemper before he became a starter full time.

It's not just the results with Andersen he looks uncomfortable. Was going down really quickly on shots and leaving a lot of net open. MTL exploited his weak five hole and Ottawa his weak high blocker.

He hasn't been helped by sloppy defence but you need a save here and there not to sink the team.

We have 3 NHL-calibre goalies. Let's roll all of them and play the hot hand.

Fred should be back of the line now after 2 brutal showings.

Campbell starts the next 2 and go from there.

I'm not a goalie expert by any means but doesnt it look like Fred consistently lose's control of his crease and starts flopping/swimming around?

So many side open net goals where he's out of position and doesnt step up when we need him the most and many times actually does the oppposite.

Leading the league in five hole goals allowed also isnt very inspiring.

He's a good goalie but far too inconsistent and mentally looks shook when things start to go south.

Ask yourself honestly: when was the last time you said to yourself "Wow, Freddy really stole that one for us." Now ask yourself how often you've said "We were the better team but we ran into a hot goaltender."

Goalies are supposed to step up and win a game once in awhile. Fred really doesn't do this. He's been very solid at times, junk like last night on occasion and that's about all there is to him. He'll never be the kind of goalie that will steal a series for us.
