I now have a fourth favorite realtor.

#1 - The realtor who I worked with to get my house. He rocks.
#2 - My realtor friend in LA who shows the ultra-mega mansions, former model and one of the most physically beautiful women I've ever seen in my life. Also hooked me up with a trusted inspector in Mich as a partner at her firm out there had just moved from the area.
#3 - Another one from Spain who fits similar criteria as above without the trusted inspector.
#4 - Danny D.

Honorable mentiond of Vic Vinegar and Hugh Honey.

Yeah, he's gonna need slower customers, I doubt he can keep up with the younger up and coming crowd. Put him against the older ones and he'll be fine.

Good thing he retired before his back totally crapped out, real estate does require a lot of walking around.

I don't see why anyone would hold a grudge against DDK, he tried his best with a bad back, and the team would have sucked regardless.

Mantha is the only player that's pissed me off, because he has talent, skill, and physical abilities. His problems are all in his head.

How long have you been a Red Wings fan? People will hate any player for any reason.

I think I need to return to Texas as soon as I can get a transfer for work. I’ve regretted the move to Seattle since December.
So what did ya decide?

I'm interviewing for a transfer Thu. Taking it if I get a full relocation package.

After looking at house prices in between Brighton and Novi, I think it makes sense to move back. Having no mortgage is really appealing.

My current boss took a shit on me transferring to Chicago for a promotion because I’m ‘too hard to replace on the team.’ And they don’t want me to leave until they have an internal replacement. So as soon as a post is available I’m jumping ship to DFW or Philadelphia again. Even if it’s just a lateral.

yeah, that's just a nice way for management to say "screw you." Some place else will appreciate and treat you and your career better.

Yep. It's #1 bullshit when they play that garbage. They want to keep you cause you're so valuable, there gotta be some cash flowin'.

I was gonna say the same thing.... but didn't want to jinx myself. I could be in the same boat where they want me to stay in the same job. The job I applied for has been open for a while, and I'm the most senior engineer in my current group. Everyone else has less than 5 years with the company. I'm gonna ask for a full relocation package, and I'm not moving unless they give it to me. I think that's gonna be another sticking point.

I'm approaching the end of my career, so I'm doing it more as a retirement move. A little late in my career to be switching companies again.

Oh I realize that. I have friends on the team in Chicago and when they were checking references 3 of the 4 people I know gave glowing references. My current team lead, whom I have spent a grand total of 5 minutes collectively in conversation with over the 1 year on the Seattle team, gave a luke warm reference. Because they're my current supervisor (if I can even call them that) the TL in Chicago put more weight on that reference than others.

I've talked to other people on my team and in my region and asked if they had similar experiences when applying for promotions off the team and it's a not-so-hidden secret that many supervisors in this region scuttle promotion attempts because the hiring process takes 6+ months for replacements.

Seems like that's the trend in any profession. Same in my field, at this point the company is hiring anyone with a pulse and a STEM degree.

I don't know how old you are, but we actually tell the younger kids to quit and come back in a year or two. Easiest way to get a raise at my company. We've had 3 kids that did it after we (myself and a couple of the older guys) told them to.

If you are young enough to do it, make sure you quit on good terms. Don't burn bridges until you hit 50, lol.

That's what I was told at my job as well. Our internal policies prevent us from negotiating a raise when taking a new post if you are a current employee. However, if I were to separate for any period of time I can renegotiate salary upon hire. The only downside to that is I lose the PTO I built up. (I'll get paid out for it, but I have about 200 hours right now.)

You'll need that money when you move. If you get paid for the accumulated vacation, that's actually a good thing. Plus you can negotiate vacation days when you find a new job, if the company has a fixed policy, you ask for extra pay in lieu of vacation. That is what I did when I got my present job.... 11 years ago. Now I get full vacation and the extra pay, lol.

If you work for a large corporation (which is what it sounds like), the company probably has fixed raises that get distributed based on performance. If that's how your company is, you'll never catch up to market salary without changing jobs.

If you're under 40, you need to consider it. If you're under 30, you definitely need to do the jump. You can always go back as long as you don't piss anyone off when you leave. If you don't own a house then relocating should be easy anyways. The people who have mortgages are kinda locked into their houses because of interest rates. I can relocate because I won't need a mortgage

Sounds like the job is mine if I want it, but no relocation because I can work out of either office. I'm planning on taking the job and relocating next summer on my own dime. Keeping the ski condo, and gonna work in both locations. Property values are dropping in Michigan, they're stable in Bellingham. It'll be a wash financially if the trend continues.

My management won't block me because they know I'll jump ship. You really ought to consider it if the company you work for doesn't have your best interest in mind. My company is gonna let me work out of WA or MI or both in order to retain me as an employee. Plus I get to work from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That kinda sold me right there even without the relo package.

Edit: BTW, if you're thinking about jumping ship do it now while the job market is still hot. Unemployment numbers today were very low which means a tight labor market. Employers are more willing to make concessions when they're having a hard time hiring.

What a wild MNF game. Not only interesting to watch in and of itself, but heading into that game I was down 31 points in fantasy football with only Diggs to play.

He got me 27 points.

Very very close, including a near miss on a TD that would've made the difference. But a fun watch.

I was down 13 points with the Jets Defense going up against the Bills, he had Rodgers. I had no shot...or so I thought.

After years of military life, then getting a civy job that had a decent amount of travel I've finally been able to settle down and move on from the gaming laptop/console life.

Built a new computer for myself over the past couple of days. Can't wait to put it through its paces this weekend. Thinking I'm going to try Starfield, 99% I'm going to get lost in that one. Seems tailor made for me.

Specs for the nerds that are interested: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/xkDMcH

Seems like that'll blast right through whatever you wanna do. And this shit is normally why I wait and buy two-three gens old. I built a lesser computer than this for like 2500 in 2021.

I get that, I was going back and forth on which gen processor/gpu I should get for a couple of weeks. Finally just threw my hands in the air and set a budget with the wife and went for as best I could in that budget.

Its nice knowing that I can upgrade piecemeal after this instead of replacing the entire laptop though.

NL prices for computer parts has now become complaint number 2 about moving here. (Otherwise every thing else is great!)

Hahah. if shipping wouldn't absolutely kill any benefit of doing so, I'd 100% go to Microcenter and ship some stuff to you as needed. Love that place.

This is basically where I'm at. I have components from prior builds (I wanna say 13TB of HDD storage) and 500GB of another NVME. It's been a hot minute, so I forget exactly what. But your rig would probably beat mine up.

Also, I haven't really exploited any use of it yet, but I also built a NAS with 14TB in redundant storage. I'm trying to get my family onboard to just have an encrypted cloud of all of our stuff, but adoption has been slow, because most don't get it and the others are just recalcitrant.

I wouldn't say mine blows yours out of the water, you've got a good rig there that should last a while with how its slowed down some.

I had a plex media server set up at my old house, with a 10TB NAS. Absolutely loved it, yet no one in my family besides me used it. Oldest was fine with just youtube, youngest just wanted bluey.

Built my last computer about, hmm, 12 years ago? Took a little extra time and managed to get some huge deals on components (mostly through Newegg, are they still good?)… I think it was about $1800 in value and I paid closer to $1200. You guys are kinda giving me the itch to build another one.

Newegg is still reasonably priced… but they’ve taken some huge reputation hits with refurbished and RMA bullshit. Honestly, Amazon would be a key place to go now instead, unless you’ve got a micro center in driving distance.

Customer service for NE kinda blows now

I’ll recommend it again. Reddit build a pc sales. That sub does exactly what you did. Jaster, but just in a subreddit. Deals on new stuff from all around.

Yeah, I’m not feeling I’m missing out or have a bad one, I broke my rule and went hard at getting great stuff.

I love building them. My brother got me to help him and his fiancé build her a pc for Christmas last year. Hers looks super clean. Did a good job with that one

Good to know, thanks! I'm not really in need of a new rig at the moment, and I'm thinking I want to build one with my daughter, but she's only 5, so another 2-3 years seems like a reasonable timeframe. Maybe we'll build two, one for her, one for me lol.
