Lou started that too with trading for Boyle and Turtleneck in back to back year.
Hainsey was good bc the D needed help but Marleau seemed to be a rush decision but st the time, we thought he would be trading JVR away to get assets.
Let’s not even go there
Even though he should have stayed and good for him for islanders success let’s not forget he also made some bad mistakes, mistakes that took trading draft picks to fix
He never improved our defence and we never won a playoff series
I have no doubt our contracts would have been allot better, prob except matthews

and players we could have kept if we had Marners cap back, I loved Hyman but no way I would go anywhere close to what he got in Edmonton

The team stopped focusing on futures the moment they drafted Matthews. That's when ufas stopped being traded and picks started going for vets.
But, as Dubas fans like to point out, the Leafs had drafted 20 times in the last two years. So picks were fine to deal away. It has to be the same for both right?

It’s time to fire Dubas. Hell, it was probably time after we lost the play in to Columbus, and definitely time after that collapse against Montreal, but now it’s definitely, DEFINITELY time.

The teams he’s built haven’t won a single playoff round, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. The lack of heart is so obvious out there. Fire Dubas immediately, appoint an interim GM, and begin the search for his replacement. It has to be done - if Shanny doesn’t see that, fire him too.

It's really bewildering how the teams expansion strategy was all about protecting Holl.

Holl has sucked in two playoffs in a row. He's had rough second halfs of the seaason twice now.

With Muzzin clearly hurt, we can see what Holl is when Muzzin isn't carrying him on his back.

Not upgrading the top-4, plus losing a stabilizing force in Bogosian, has really been uh not good.

Really? I just don't think our core players are that good.
And if that is the case (I would agree with you) Lou would've done something about it by now. We wouldn't be sat here saying I think we should give them one last chance, every single week.

Leafs are finding out they're not in the Canadian North any longer, and the teams in the South across the boarder are much stiffer quality of competition then they were use to last year.

Pittsburgh is a good example of a deep team with strong depth beyond their superstars.

Post was more about Lou and MGt didn’t stay on course more than Lou is the best.
Lou didn’t trade any of the pending UFAs like he should if it is about rebuilding properly and not getting the best record.
I really don’t like going back with what if bc it could be as simple as drafting Fox instead of Woll in 2016.

Did anyone watch the whole game?

I watched the first period, went to eat dinner.

After eating, it was 3-1. After doing the dishes, it was 5-1.

So I did not watch the rest of the game.

I did see a couple of highlights.

What I saw in the first and the highlights, was a Pittsburgh team who played a simple game. They got it out, they got it in, and that is all they did.

Did the Leafs really get steamrolled by that, a team getting it out, then getting it in?

Did Pittsburgh do anything different in the second and third periods?

Getting it in and getting it out should not produce a blowout score.

And his solution to losing those series is…….

run it back with the same core!!!!!

I watched the whole game - we simply did not show up, AT ALL, except the 4th line. Our big bucks top 6 generated almost no offence. Didn’t even control the puck much. Our 3rd line got dominated. The Pens weren’t doing anything special, they just worked hard, out hit us, won puck battles, skated harder. Bunch of blue collar grinders out competing the shit out of some skilled players who didn’t even try.

It was a truly pathetic effort.

Honestly on one hand I’d say this is what the leafs need to wake em up but I’ve been naive for too long. This was a huge low

Reporter: "did you address the team after the game?"
Keefe: "No"

He's lost that room, too many arrogant prima donnas who don't want to grind out wins or just don't have a clue how to do that

I don't believe he has lost the room. It's a strategy used by lots of coaches after a horrible loss.

If you yell and point out every mistake all the time, they will tune you out.

Sometimes the silence makes it worse.

Now, if the core has tuned him out the Leafs would indeed have to blow everything up.

There are not enough players left from the Babcock years to believe this to be true.

Tavares isn't that personality. Nylander is working ad hard as he can, so it could only be Marner, Matthews and Reilly.

Put Marner, AM and JT in the press box. No cell phones just watch the game and feel shame as 30 million sits there because they aren’t doing anything on the ice anyway. Have the press talk to them before the game. All hard questions no softballs.

How does it feel to be one of the highest paid player who can’t get their team out of first round, can’t get motivated for games and don’t seem to have any leadership qualities. Do you think you deserve 11 million per? You’ve gotten a coach axed, there have been a revolving door of some of the NHL most revered players/leaders brought in with little results. Why can’t you lift this team on your back and demand that from everyone in that room?
