The nhl is a results oriented business.

As the gm, you are responsible for the team. If the team does well, you get credit. If the team fails, you get the blame.

Dubas has been wrong for 3 years now and still has refused to address the main issue. He needs to be fired sooner rather than later.

B. It was actually 1 year from Lou's hiring to being back in the playoffs, with 95% of the turnaround being players already in the system or no brainer 1st overall picks.

Teams that make it past the first round get the benefit of the doubt early in the season so I don't really care where the islanders are right now.

Yeah, I would like to see the reasoning with regards to on ice performance on the bosses boss.

Perhaps they are all playing with injury or injury impact, Tavares still suffering from that huge collision last year, Matthews surgery and conditioning, marner's injury in preseason wasn't minor?

Non of them look like first liners, but we know they have played like liners while playing under the same contract and same coach and same GM.

At this point these are our positives (because it's important to acknowledge those):
Bunting - been excellent, exactly as advertised
Nylander - best player on the team currently
Kampf - i was not optimistic for him but I love him
Sandin - showing me up, much more polished than I expected though I didn't like him very much against San Jose
Kase - great addition
Simmonds and Spezza - you know what, both the vets are playing good hockey, and I thought Simmonds was done. I have no problems with either of these guys right now at all
Dermott - he is looking and playing like a top 4 dman, in my opinion Sandin/Dermott is our best pair
Engvall - inconsistent still, but seems like a bonafide NHLer

the underlying theme with the majority of those guys is they compete, and compete HARD.

Just a what could've been:

Bunting-Tavares-Marner
McCann-Kampf-Kapanen
Simmonds-Spezza-Kase

^ This team would've fit under the cap with 400k to spare at exactly their current cap hits (which could've been 900k with a cheaper Hyman deal). I'd wager that this team has much more compete than the current crew.

Totally fair point. I’ve had many a one sided discussion with these folks.

HF Boards really isn’t a good barometer of public opinion though. I find our forum has a more than normal share of really opinionated and outside of reality posters.

Those who support Maxime Bernier... for both his politics and because they read on a facebook that he’s a goalie.

Honestly I think HF has some pretty intelligent fans. Not all obviously, but I follow a number of leaf pages on fB and there are far too many fan boys there, the rah rah gang. Here there are long time fans who know the team well for the most part, and have all shared the same disappointment . Not perfect but a good place to discuss the leafs.

It has nothing to do with the hockey gods, Eichel needs neck surgery. That's why no one is bidding.

The Sabres would take Marner in a heart beat. After the trade, however, Eichel will be off for 3 to 4 months recovering from neck surgery IF the Leafs let him get Artificial Disc Replacement (ADR) and it is successful.

If it is unsuccessful and Eichel is unable to play, the Leafs would be on the hook for the entire $50M - insurance will not cover his salary if Eichel gets ADR.

IF the Leafs insist on fusion, which is the procedure the vast majority of doctors feel is needed, Eichel will be gone for 6 months.

So... Do you still want to trade Marner for Eichel?

Not going to raid the thread or anything. Pens fan coming in peace. I think Eichel and Marner both have depressed trade value, Eichel more so. However, I'm not sure if the Sabres would want Marner or if the Leafs need Eichel as their 3C. It's entirely possible the Sabres wouldn't trade Eichel to the Leafs no matter what the return is because they are a divisional rival.

It's clear at this point that the few remaining diehard Dubas fans can no longer reconcile their misplaced faith with reality.

The Leafs' performance and results don't matter (and probably never did).

For them, it's all about one individual employee of the team who is oh-so-close to being fired.
