Lot of people talking in this thread about him potentially being flipped and while a lot can still happen in the next year and a half, our GM made it clear he sees him as a long term piece here, and Trouba also said he's interested in being here long term. So him being flipped isn't super likely as it stands
This.

Gotta wonder what Drury is thinking here. Does he hate Trouba that much? And why would Trouba ok a trade to California, with wife and baby tied to NY for a year? Maybe the Ducks will flip him at the deadline with retention
His family isnt tied to NY for next year. They’ll join him in California for next season

I'm at a loss here. Who in their right mind trades FOR Trouba? If I'm in the NY area, sure but you're a damn madman otherwise. His attitude is going to be a pain for the Ducks. I just don't get it.

Who cares. It's part of the business. He could retire. She can put her career on hold. The freaking guy makes 8 mil. We should all have such temporary inconveniences.

Next thing you know, he'll be whining about the negative comments on social media.

So what you're saying is they should blow it all up and start over again?
No, what i'm saying is that you spend your resources (money and cap space is a resource) on better things than Jacob Trouba.

There's no instant fix to go from shit to good (although this kind of goaltending heater is about as close as you can get). What you can do is make each move good.

If you're gonna bring in guys, try and make them moves with upside.

If you're gonna just bring in expensive cap dumps, at least get paid for it.

And if you make those better moves, all of a sudden you can become a cap team much quicker. Or if, for example, your young stars explode quicker than expected, you don't have a bunch of dead weight on the books holding you back.

If anyone in here wants to have words about Trouba's wife, say them now. But also post your location, as I will fight you.

My wife is going through the med-school/residency/fellowship pipeline right now, and it's more important than Trouba's career will ever be.
She knew the risks of being with a professional athlete. It's the nature of the beast. She should have married another doctor if it's that much of a problem

If that's worth fighting over to you, Indian Trail is adjacent to Charlotte

Buyer beware!

Trouba signed a 7 year 56 million dollar deal. That's exponentially more money than she will make throughout her 20 year career. Great she is doing good for the world, I respect it.

At the end of the day, she will never make $8 million dollars per year or even anything close to it. His career and earnings are far more important than hers at this juncture of their lives.

What the hell are you going on about? I was responding to someone who said that he was surprised Trouba waived to go so far away from his family.

Really surprised that the Ducks didn’t get a sweetener for taking a huge cap hit on a player on the decline. But I guess Verbeek has zero charisma to attract free agents without overpaying massively so I guess he thinks this is fair market price for the Ducks. I mean, Verbeek couldn’t even dump expiring contracts like Mcginn… well done Ranger GM…

Just chiming in that people are making too much of this being close to his family. If it means so much to him, he could have stayed on east coast

My "who cares " was directed at Trouba, not you.

This is an awful piece of work from Verbeek. How there is no salary retention or picks/players coming with Trouba is beyond me.

Take a look at similar trades and see what came back... 1st or 2nd rounders... 50% salary retention.

This is utterly shocking.

I look at the math and trouba isnt bad at 6.9 million for aav . Hes brand name guy and if he plays to his old ways what a solid move. I'm in the camp hes gonna find himself out of that pressure cooker in New York.

That's not how it works. He's 8aav on the books next season and the guy out the door could have been waived at not cost. Fully buriable contract.

But if another team would have taken him then maybe he doesn't have negative value, if value is based on what a team will pay

Also interestingly, his cap hit is 8 million but his salary for these two years is 6 million. The Ducks have loads of cap space so that has little value to them. Maybe they'd like the idea of a player who offers a savings in real dollars if reaching the cap floor is a goal
Yeah but we’ve seen so many example of teams paying bad teams that are close to the cap floor to take on bad contracts or even average contracts. Walman is the perfect example. my guess is the Ducks see value in Troubas ability to help out in the room coming from a winning team. And RHD d can get a lot more than fans expect at the trade deadline.

As a Ducks fan this deal is a full on MEH all around. I mean, I hope Trouba has a good time moving his life to other side of the continent, other than that, f*** him, his wife and our shitty management.
Seems aggressive as a Ducks fan? Why do you hate him and seems absolutely absurd you hate his wife…. Deranged stuff.

On another note why would NYR pay to get rid of him? They aren’t short on money and easily could’ve buried that contract in the minors if they really wanted to.

I don't like his me-first attitude, that he kept even as a captain of one of the most iconic teams. I don't like that Ducks should care about his wife's apparent requirements to be a doctor in the USA. Overall, I don't like him or the baggage that he brings. If that his hard to understand or agree with, then so be it.
