As a hockey deal it's fine. Vaak was a surplus LHD, always hurt, and completely vanilla. Trouba fills a hole although my expectations are very tempered. He'll be another veteran to surround the kids with and hopefully he'll be around next year to give Solberg lessons on the finer points of knocking opponents out.

But I also think that Verbeek rescued the Rangers from a problem and did so too cheaply. I know Trouba is PV's type of player but unless there were other teams willing to offer more, Verbeek did Drury a big favor and got nothing for it. Whatever happened to weaponizing our cap space???
I bet there were other teams. We know at least Columbus was in on it. And he refused to waive for them, which could imply they were offering more.

Hope PV hops on Ducks Stream once this one is done like he did after the Drysdale trade

This is a fantastic trade for you guys. I can't think of better partners to break Mintyukov and Zellweger into the league than Trouba and Gudas.

Verbeek is building an actual team and not just mindlessly harvesting "assets" (read: draft picks that will never turn into anything of value) like the Hawks and Habs rebuilds.

If you can't think of any better partners then Gudas and Trouba, then RHD is in the worst position it's been in nhl history.

My guess is that Trouba will be an overpaid, serviceable defenseman on the ice who might be able to bring the leadership qualities that we were hoping guys like Killorn or Gudad would bring in the locker room.

The insane main board reactions to this are just the equivalent of people yelling on Twitter.

I don't like the deal because I think Trouba is a scumbag player but oh well, at least we don't have to face him anymore.

I disagree he doesn't make us better, but he will have to prove it on the ice. We will see.
Where else was he going to prove it? And yes, we shall see. This is a discussion board however, and it is a reasonable take that a guy who is bad defensively will not improve the team.

I love this! Now gudas can play less minutes as well, we needed this guys. He’s a proud mean captain, he will turn it around . He has a lot of pride!
Reality of pro sports is overwhelming majority of players are not turning it aruond.
can we get @Dirk316 thoughts?
Typical soft Verbeek trade.

Sure, you'd rather have Makar and McAvoy in those spots if you're trying to win but as far as veteran RD who can physically protect smaller partners while still being capable enough defensively to trust in top 4 minutes, Trouba and Gudas are near the top of the list. You still need a long term solution at RD but you have some more time to find that guy with Trouba and Gudas holding down the fort for the next 2-3 years.
