I can see the truth behind Carolina not needing an extension to make the trade, that vibes with management’s way of playing things.
we likely wont be trading big pieces to make it happen then. we will be slightly above the teams who will trade him at rental rate cuz we can afford the QO.

That doesnt get it done for extended Meier . Devils offer of 1st > Leafs 1st.
Holtz > Knies . Devils could add one or more of Sharangovich , Bahl , Okhotiuk , Foote , Mikhamadoulin, Foote.
Amd no way in hell SJ does Sandin /Lilly instead of Knies …..
Well as of now, teams are trading for a non extended Meier, reports are his agent hasn’t been able to talk to other teams, I was just saying personally I would trade Knies no problem knowing we could extend him.

As for the Sandin/Lilly comment, obv it would be more than that, but I was trying to see what type of players SJ are looking for as they are young players in the NHL now with a possibility of being a top 4 dman. Or if San Jose is looking towards more greener prospects they can develop themselfs .

Pending RFA with a $10-milion Q.O.

Yeah, sure. No way the Leafs could re-sign him.

Very expensive rental.

The Leafs rumor is probably just clickbait.
There's been reports the Leafs are considering trading for Meier and just dealing with it all in summer. It honestly makes some sense since if we end up losing we're already re-tooling so a core move will be occurring regardless. Might as well try to win before that with a piece who checks off pretty much every box we're looking for

I also don't think the QO really means anything, Meier is a high end talent who could fetch 8-9 million on a longterm deal. You can just structure it so he gets something like 11 million in year 1 and now he's making more than the QO in year 1 with longterm financial security as well

i keep always thinking that Vegas is gonna get this done since Stone will be LTIR'd

VGK always makes a splash.... and then they will re sign him to a long term contract that is cheaper than people think and itll piss off all of HFboards
Do the Knights have a prospect on Holtz' level?

The Leafs don't have $8-million to re-sign him this summer. That's the whole point.

It doesn't matter what they pay in the first year of a three-year deal. They either qualify him, sign him or let him go to free agency. The Leafs don't have the cap space to qualify him or sign him to a multi-year deal. He would end up a free agent.

Watching this Devils game, holy f*** you guys need Meier bad lol no finish from any one other than Hughes, shooting it wide/right at shins

The Devil's are 7th in the league in Goals For - 6th in the league in Goals Per Game.

If the Devils had Meier's goals added to their roster right now they would be 15 goals ahead of Edmonton... pretty much blowing away the league.

And yet 5 outta 6 pts without in the line-up last 3 gms

While definitely true, it's not viable to win in the playoffs like that. Devils definitely do have a chance of winning the cup with Timo Meier in their top-6 to give them more finishing aside from Hughes

Again, that accounts for Jack Hughes as well, who definitely opens things up for everyone on the ice but you still want at least another elite finisher.

I don't disagree with you at all.

Finishing has been a long time problem for NJ. In fact, I am more than shocked that they have as many goals as they do this season.

Everyone knows hockey isn't a one man sport but I am of the opinion that without Jack Hughes bust out year the Devils are not far off from another year of watching ping-pong balls and Daly turning over cards.

Weird considering they have a winning record against the Atlantic and are 1-1-1 vs carolina

But carry on
You know playoffs hockey is different?

Tampa and Boston are proven veteran playoff teams.
You wouldn’t be the favourite against either of them as of today

And yet 5 outta 6 pts without in the line-up last 3 gms

You’ve played Minnesota/Columbus& Seattle during that stretch.

Congrats

Were making it to the Conference finals?! sweet!

Thanks for your support man.

In reality anything past beating the Rangers or making it past the 1st round is gravy for Devils fans.

Lol what a joke, if a team like Boston does the same thing with Pastrnak or the Rangers do this without Fox, they'd get applauded.

No one put them on a Stanley Cup parade after such an achievement.

My $.02 here as a devils fan…

I think most in this thread are missing a big piece of this puzzle. The Devils are playing with house money here. I would love to add Timo to our core and deep down think he only wants to extend here. With that said Fitz has shown time and time again he isn’t skipping steps to this rebuild that is 95-99% complete. Before the season the hopes were to compete for a playoff spot, it looks like that will be easily surpassed and finally playoff hockey will be back in Jersey.

Luke Hughes will get his cup of coffee this spring and Nemec probably next season gets his. Yes, Timo would be the final big piece to complete the puzzle but Fitz won’t go crazy with shipping assets. If it’s not enough (First/Holtz/Sharangovich/Prospect) then so be it. I like our chances of signing Timo in the summer and if it doesn’t work out someone else will become available.

Why bother going through all of that? Essentially swap Meier for Nylander but give up Knies and a 1st plus in order to do so? Ya not happening
They could always flip Rielly, it's not like he's got a bad contract by any means. They've already got Liljegren, Sandin, Giordano, Brodie, Holl, Timmins, Muzzin (he'll either be back or on Robidas island), Niemala, along with depth in Benn and Mete.

Their defensive play without Rielly as a team was elite, like top 3 league-wide. Rielly doesn't help them keeping the puck out of the net.

They can keep Meier along with Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Tavares if they really wanted to. It's not hard. The Leafs don't have bad contracts as a result of paying their top guys premium. Tavares might be considered their worst contract but even he's ppg in year 5 of his contract.

How is Buffalo not in on Timo, they've got the cap and the assets and I'd safely say they're on their path to build a contender

That offer would be like 5th place on possible offers they will receive for Mieir.
It doesn’t matter who fans think has the best package for a player. It only matters who the GM wants. If the San Jose GM wants knies+++ that’s who they’ll go after.

I agree they need a heavier team that can skate and add depth scoring

CBJ I'll give you, but SEA? MIN less so, but the comment was we got shellacked. I'd rather the team find ways to win than just lose. But that's just me.
