No joke. How did he arrive at a contract where he competed against himself? $72 M over 8 years. no team could go more than seven, and he wanted to stay in Buffalo. I'm supposed to believe there was another team willing to go $10 M x 7 years. LOL. That contract should have been $7.5 M x 8 or $60 million. Yes, it was a crazy deal and implied some team would go $8.5 M x seven for Skinner.
This contract (followed by demanding O'Reilly be traded one day before the bonus was due) is a key exhibit of incompetence Pegula. How they got to $72 M over eight will always be a mystery.
We were going to stuck with a bad contract but amazing how they got played.
Paying him $10.5 million was hilarious. An unemployed soccer president duped Pegula into a crazy dollar figure. Mindless. How many coaching offers could he have had to leverage the contract? No one was making him a GM. Maybe, a senior admin person but not for that salary, My Gawd if Pegula an idiot.

I think Jeff's agent did a good job. He knew Buffalo had a pretty weak roster and they wouldn't want to lose a guy who scored 40 goals. I doubt anyone was willing to pay him 10 million a year, but who knows.

People complain about keeping the Bills stadium in Orchard Park but it's actually smart: Far enough away from downtown so that nobody can smell the stench from the rotting maggot infested corpse of the hockey team Terry murdered.
Not to re-litigate here, but It was pretty clear that Jeff wanted to go to Market and the contract he got was the 'make me stay' price. It was a dumb decision to pay it. I think (hope) that they've learned their lesson about essentially paying hostage negotiation prices.

Well, how else can I say it, it was a bad contract, but they got themselves into a situation where the team only had Eichel and Reinhart and nothing else. They screwed up.
It's just another mistake of many. It was going to be a bad contract down the line but should have been $7.5 M x 8 years. They got played. He wanted to be close to Toronto and said it multiple times. His parents could come down to games.

Never thought I would hate anyone more than that rat bastard Karmanos. He murdered my Whalers, Terry murdered the Sabres.
He doesn't have to sell but he absolutely has to stop being involved in any on ice team decisions. You can't have an amature owner being part of all the personnel and coaching decisions and have a functional team. It starts and ends with that fact.

I just don’t think he is. He isn’t even in Buffalo most of the time so how is he being a part of all personnel and coaching decisions?
He hired the front office. And did a poor job of it.
My guess is he’s around the Bills much more because it’s so much more enjoyable and he’s built a solid organization.
Jerry won multiple super bowls. Just not recently.

Thinking more about this, if he were to copy his Bills formula, Botterill would’ve been the closest thing to it. Botterill and Housley were deserving and highly regarded at the time. The NHL recommended them.
The only difference is they both had ties to Buffalo.
Does he finally realize Adams was an awful awful hire and bring in the a rising star in the GM world? Hire someone qualified and let them do their job. Don’t tell Botterill he needs to trade ROR or sign Skinner.
How are Marty Wilford and Seth Appert still here. Or Jerry Forton.
