All Things Pegula 2

You only need an experienced one? Well, I mean, if the GM will hire not Terry, but a POHO/advisor. I looked at all the experienced options and I don't even know who to choose. There are some very dubious guys there.
Having positive experience as an NHL GM is a must have for the next GM of the Sabres, IMO.

Obviously I'm not talking about running back Botts or Murray. But, I have no stomach for another rookie GM. None. I don't care if it is Karmanos or the next "hot name" like Botts and Murray were.

Thinking more about this, if he were to copy his Bills formula, Botterill would’ve been the closest thing to it. Botterill and Housley were deserving and highly regarded at the time. The NHL recommended them.

The only difference is they both had ties to Buffalo.

Does he finally realize Adams was an awful awful hire and bring in the a rising star in the GM world? Hire someone qualified and let them do their job. Don’t tell Botterill he needs to trade ROR or sign Skinner.

How are Marty Wilford and Seth Appert still here. Or Jerry Forton.
Hey now, leave Jerry Forton out of this.

He doesn't have to sell but he absolutely has to stop being involved in any on ice team decisions. You can't have an amature owner being part of all the personnel and coaching decisions and have a functional team. It starts and ends with that fact.
The only reason I'm posting that he should sell is that I don't think he can own this team and do what he does with the Bills -- let his top executives do their own thing and get out of the way.

If he's willing and able to stop being involved with things..........then I'm fine with him being owner.

You don’t need a team President when you have a seasoned GM.

The issue here has always been a stream of rookie GMs, the last one so inexperienced it’s a f***ing joke, with no hockey man to help. It’s a disaster of Pegula’s own making. He hires people without the experience to steer a ship…then sells the wheel.

As far as I understand it Forton’s influence hasn’t meaningfully extended into team composition and acquisitions, etc. that may be different since his promotion

If I was the single biggest failure of an owner in NHL history I'd like to think I'd realize that what I was doing wasn't working and try a different approach

Go look at what he bought the team for. Now go look at what they are currently valued at. Now look at how much each owner is handed for every expansion or relocation that isn’t split with players.

At the end of this investigation you will discover why Terry Pegula doesn’t give a solitary f*** how the Sabres do. And why he continues to own the team despite crying poverty on it. Weird, right? That someone would “lose” so much money they have to gut the hockey department, lay off low income workers during a pandemic, and spend at the bottom of the league…and still wants to own the team? Doesn’t add up, does it?

Hes a scout. He was majority JUST a scout. He also does not make the selections.
And also a good friend of Pegula.

No. All these bums need to be fired.

Entire front office needs to be gutted and rebuilt under an experienced, competent GM.
Not necessarily, let the new GM/POHO evaluate the situation himself, maybe the new employees will be worse or for example there are really good employees. We just don't know about it, since the decision is still made by Adams and Terry.

If the GM/POHO wants to hire Forton back after the purge, they are free to do so. But I doubt they would.

I'm tired of how many Pegula nepotism hold overs there are from one regime to the next.

It's the same crap they just did to Ruff. He has the same assistant staff as Donny. I don't want the next GM saddled with the same staff that Murray, Botts and Adams had.

Forton has been here for the entirety of the drought. I want new ideas in the building.

And I didn't mean Forton specifically, but if, for example, we have a good analytical department (which we also don't know for sure), then why should it be fired, especially since this department hasn't been in the organization for that long. It's easy to tear down, but it's harder to build up later. That's why I said let the new GM evaluate it.

I'd rather a few good people get fired than risk retaining a single bad apple. Because all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch. And this front office spoiled years ago.

Well, I don't agree with this approach. I think good employees can be kept.

hope the poor souls who keep going start a “Sell The Fran-chise” chant at some point this year. Terry has more than earned that and all other fan ire

Where are the guys who used to plaster the signs in the last row of the 300’s? Can we get them to start with:

“Terry Ruined Hockey In Buffalo, NY”

I’d actually be thrilled if he named Brandon Beane President of both organizations. What a sad state of affairs.

I’m full blow the organization up.

Hire Ruff as President
Quenneville as Head Coach
Experienced winning GM

Eh but I’m not sell the team yet. Pegula just needs to take what’s he’s learned from the Bills. He struck gold. He needs same leadership structure and style. I’m afraid if he sells we lose the team in Buffalo.

Thinking more about this, if he were to copy his Bills formula, Botterill would’ve been the closest thing to it. Botterill and Housley were deserving and highly regarded at the time. The NHL recommended them.

The best way to quiet Terry is to outvote him. You can’t piecemeal a staff together.

I’d honestly go something like this:

POHO: Lindy
GM: Dan McKinnon
HC: McGill

They spent the last 4-ish years working together and building the Devils.

I think there are general rules. In which I agree with you. Then there are Pegula/Sabres rules where I wouldn’t be mad if we eliminate anybody with a prior working relationship with Pegula.

I doubt Ventura and his department had any dealings with the Pegula, especially since he hasn't been with the Sabres that long. If the new GM thinks this department is good, I wouldn't mind keeping it.

Fortons resume is a joke and the only reason he is here is because their friendship goes back before Terry bought the team. They’ve been buds since the 90’s.
