I think Gus will be good in Detroit. Our abysmal team defense ruined a chance for us to develop a competent goalie.

Oh come on.

Gustavsson let in goals from the goal line and directed shots that were going wide into his own net (see game VS NJ last year). There's absolutely nothing a defense can do to prevent those things.

He was wildly inconsistent, where one minute he could make a great save and the very next minute let in a stinker. Even some routine saves made him struggle.

If he does well in Detroit, good for him, but he had a ton of opportunities here and he never showed he could be more than just a decent backup.

There are a number of factors that likely played into this:
- Run-and-gun often leaves goalies hanging out to dry
- Weak defense that cant clear the crease
- Francois Allaire trying to change Gus's style significantly

It's a shame because I sincerely believe Gus will be a quality starter one day, if not that then at least an exceptional back-up.

All the goalies played behind the Runnin Ronnies.

It isn't like they played the trap for one goalie and not the other.

I never tried to imply otherwise. It was not the right situation for Gus to develop...actually it couldn't have been more wrong. He will be good for another team, which for a variety of reasons seems to happen a lot to the Leafs.

Gustavsson was awful.

What does he have to do with Leaf Camp?

Yeah I think Kadri is pretty much a lock to make the team, if he doesn't I don't know what he has to do..

Wasn't Kessel was taken off the ice on a stretcher or something? Guy is probably in horrible shape with the big layoff.

Apparently they found him napping in the back on the stretcher. False alarm.

About Cody Hodgson:

"Hodgson will open the season centering what's expected to be the top line flanked by Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville, The Buffalo News reports.

Recommendation: The Sabres are thin at center, but they are placing a lot of faith in the talented Hodgson, who was acquired from the Canucks last season. He should get plenty of power-play time as well. The former first-rounder hasn't put up big numbers in the NHL yet, but he has the playmaking talent and is still only 22 years old, so we'll see if he can take this job with two strong linemates and run with it.

On fantasy hockey. Why can't we give Kadri a chance like this?

Because we're busy bathing in the success and playoff games that Connolly and Lombardi have continuously blessed the Leafs with.
