Skjei, Kotkaniemi and Hamilton, in particular, were not considered buy lows at the time.

Interest and willingness to pay should be correlated. There’s a difference, using insider parlance, being “around” a player and really, really wanting him. LeBrun used aggressive language there.
I believe the language he used is due to insider information....he is being told by our group that we "really, really" want him. So he says what he is told by the group. But will the group act they way they say? I have doubts.

They can act the way they say and still have limits to how far they will go.

They really, really want Meier, but if NJ blinks and adds Mercer or STL includes their potentially top 10 1st round pick? I won't blame the Borg for walking away rather than one-upping those deals.

If "really, really want" means they max out at a 1st + one of Morrow/Nikishin, I agree they aren't acting the way they say.

1. I don’t think anyone questioned the interest but more so the willingness.

2. They all said NJ wants him more
If this is accurate, I go back to my proposal from several days ago. 2 firsts, Morrow and mid-level prospect. Other teams hopefully value 1st round picks from Carolina more than we do. these are late first round picks and with our prospect pool, likely will not advance quickly through the system.

I do not care about real or perceived overpayments with respect to this deadline. If Meier is the player that puts this team in firm contention for a Cup, you MUST get him. See Tampa and Colorado as examples of deadline savvy teams. Meier creates a formidable 2nd line assuming SAT reunites as I believe they should. Svech is energized alongside Aho and we all know the chemistry between Aho and TT. The 2nd line of Meier - KK - Necas is filthy. Necas can drive play, Meier is the shooter, and KK is there to win draws and work the net area.

I have heard that SJ wants to slow play this process, so Carolina should consider putting an aggressive offer out there and saying it expires in 48 hours.

Regarding the Front office paying market price, I think they will pay whatever they think is best for the organization.

They've shown so far, that Dougie Hamilton's best years of his contract could be replaced for less money without much of a dropoff.

I think at the same time, with guys like Tkachuk and maybe Meier, they see something that isn't going to have a comparables available, and the only way to get them is to overpay, and if they think that's what the team needs, I think we see that 7ish million in flexible spending they have every year maybe go towards picking up one of those fellas.

cap dumps in a year we are contending instead of an add?

I'm not sure if that would be infuriating or troll level winning. I guess it depends on the result.
There may not be a good option that fits what we want to do in the mid/long term and much better to get picks for cap dumps than to just sit on all this cap space we have (because of Patches' injury).

Didn't the AS broadcast last year say how much Kuzy liked playing under RBA?
I would love to add Kuzy to the team in a vacuum, but he's another pass first guy who is not a great goal scorer, not exactly what we need as we already have a bunch of those guys. Also, while he has term it's at nearly $8M per year, I don't think that fits in our cap structure the next several years. And I don't think the Caps blow it up any time soon.

Where have you seen/heard this?
It's definitely a joke, but Arizona has some moves coming as they just acquired Shane Weber's LTIR contract. So they can move whoever they need and still hit the cap floor if they need to use Weber for that, or use the LTIR space if they need more cap space.

I no longer think that the Devils are the biggest threat for Meier. It's St. Louis and their top-10 caliber 1st. Outside of Jarvis and Mercer, who aren't going to be dealt, or Nemec, who's a long-shot to be traded due to NJ's need for defensive ELCs next year, there's no more powerful asset on the potential Meier market than that pick. The thing about STL and New Jersey, however, is that either club will require an extension to part with said assets while the Canes don't. The Canes may not need to pay as much because they have more cap flexibility.

Ugh. Should've seen that. My mind was engaged somewhere else. Carry on.

The Blue's owner should fire the GM if he trades that pick.
